Hi Guys,

Hoping you guys can help me - Havent built a new PC in years and years and finally decided the time is right. My main uses will be for productivity - trading, office applications and some minimal photoshop. I often have lots on the go at once though. Gaming is a nice to have - although I love to game i dont really have the time. Also I would like to connect 3 monitors to the machine. Im currently thinking 2 x 27" and 1 x 49" or 34" in the future. In terms of timing Id like to get this now, but if there's a compelling reason to wait I can hold off for a month or so.

I've intentionally chosen a cheaper GFX as I know new ones are due in the near term. Happy to go cheaper if theres a better alternative.

I'd like the motherboard to be future proof, but i may have gone overkill with the X570. Also I'm currently considering getting 32gb ram as opposed to the 16gb I've currently spec'd.

Thanks in advance

Thank you for your time :)

Hi

There is a lot of 'excessive' parts in that list if gaming isn't the main aim. Also did you mean to select a micro ATX case ? or do you want an ITX one ? as you have an ITX board in your list.

Something like this would be a cheaper option, and includes 32GB Ram.

I would try and hang on for B550 though as you should hopefully have a bit more choice on ITX or mATX boards assuming they don't ignore the small form factor. The MSI B450M Mortar MAX is a good board though if you don't mind not having pcie 4.0 support. As it is a MAX board it should support Ryzen 4000 as well.

Changed the case to a cheaper mATX one. Pretty good value as you get 3 fans pre-installed as well.

A 550W psu is enough for this spec.

Swapped out the cooler for a decent air cooler.

Swapped out the gpu for a 1660 Super. You can still game at 1440p with good framerates if you drop settings to high instead of ultra. If you want the RTX 2060 then swap it back.

Cheaper 1440p monitor. As gaming isn't the most important thing you might be able to find a cheaper 60Hz/75Hz 1440p screen.

The MP34 SSD is cheaper and just as good.

Swapped the HDD to a WD Black. You get a longer 5 year warranty as well and it is a reliable HDD.

Hi Lee,

Thank you for your detailed response. I kind chose the original case, cooler and Ram, based on aesthetics more than anything else (i did check out a few reviews). God knows why Ive chosen to take a liking to RGB at the tender age of 42 :D

Quick question based on the spec you have suggested - if say in a years time I decided to get a 2070 or its equivalent at the time (3070?) would the PSU still be powerful enough for that system? Also assuming the new B550 boards will be out in the next month or so I'm happy to wait.

I have made some changes and created a new basket based on the bits you suggested that I'm happy with.... Will do a bit of research on the new case you've suggested and cooler as it seems the sensible option - Although my heart is still inclined to the flashy corsair case and AIO (need to think)...

Thanks again

Yes a 550W is enough for most setups. Also Nvidia gpu's tend to be pretty power efficient. A 650W would give you a bit of headroom, but most are out of stock at the minute on here at least. You can probably find something like a SuperFlower Leadex III 650W if you shop around though :)

Thanks again Lee..

Once the b550 motherboards are available I'll post my final build before hitting the order button. Hopefully you guys can give it the once over before I commit :)

15th is release date and reviews of the board should be live then . Just a shame 8 core 4700G isn't released at the same time as that has on board GPU. would have saved some cash if gaming is low profile

Just a note if you go for the H1, in your above spec you have a 3.5" HDD, there's no space in the H1 for a 3.5" drive.

Personally I wouldn't put a mechanical drive in my desktop, I have a separate server well away from me for storage.

Good thing about the H1 is that it has a 650w PSU and cooler included. I'm running a 650w PSU in my ITX build and it powers my 2060 Super just fine.

Thanks Nick, heads up is much appreciated. Just waiting for the B550 motherboards to be released then I'll take the plunge :) Although desperation is starting to kick in..... loooooool so might just get the case that Lee suggested if I cant find a H1 by the end of the month

Have you seen Silverstone's vertical case or Phanteks mesh version ?

B550 Aorus ITX listed as $170 . Just have to hope exchange rate has been kind
