Hi all. I'm about two weeks away from building a new system. (About time, been three years!) However, I'm not sure now is the best time due to directx 10 not being too far away and with that the new Graphics cards that will shortly follow. What do you guys think? Below is the system I'm thinking of putting together. Your opinions and suggestions would be gratefully received, as I want a system that is going to be around for a while without having to change the motherboard and start again. I eventually want to run dual GPUs but I will wait till next year for that. Anyway, below is what I was thinking....

ASUS M2N-SLI DLX nF570 Socket AM2 2x PCI-E SLi

AMD ATHLON 64x2 4200 RETAIL

GAINWARD BLISS 7900GT PCX 'GOLDEN SAMPLE' 512mb PCI-E

SEAGATE BARRACUDA 160gb SATA2

CORSAIR TWIN2X 2Gb DDR2 XMS2 6400

THERMALTAKE SOPRANO SUPERMIDI TOWER

LEVICOM 550W ATX PSU

Welcome to the forums. What is your budget here? InvaderGIR is right though, Conroe is the better bet at the moment and probably ATI in the form of an X1900XT also but that is less clear cut.

If he's on a tight budget conroe isnt gonna work unless he sacrifices other parts.

Personally if i were to stick to the spec i'd have to choose another power supply though.

Welcome to the forums by the way to the new guy!! ;)

Hi Guys. Thanks for the welcome :). I can budget about £700 and I won't need DVD drives or monitor etc. So pretty much a bare bones system. Like a said I want to go Dual GPU when directx 10 Cards come out so wopuld I be better off with a cheaper card say a 7600 or go ati and maybe an x1900? Buy all means spec me a Rig for £700 fellas. Def consider going intel if you think that would be better! Cheers for the input!

No

x1900 is better then 2 7600's.

Then you can xfire your x1900 when u need extra power.

Also get the conroe fastest cpu around at the mo

Would this card allow me to play current games at max settings until I buy directx 10 cards? On the system mentioned above or an intel system? Its on special at the mo...

HIS ATI Radeon X1900 GT ICEQ 3 SILENT Heatpipe 256MB GDDR3

Well I can tell you now almost everyone will say go for Conroe and an ATi graphics card :) - just a forewarning.
