Hi People,
I was thinking about upgrading my PC. (Current Specification is in my signature). I was looking at the i7 950 3.06Ghz because it looks like a real bargain after the massive price reduction a few months ago.

Is it worth buying the i7 950 system now or waiting for socket 2011?/1155?

Below is a basic outline of the specification.
All parts are from the OcUK website.

I7 950.
Gigabyte X58A-DS5
Gigabyte GTX 460 Super OC
Corsair 6GB Dominator C8 1600mhz Ram
Corsair 650w Modular PSU
OCZ 120Gb Bigfoot Vertex 2E SSD
Samsung F3 1Tb HDD

Thanks :D

Thanks RJC,

It's more of an Urge if I'm honest, I've had the system about two years, Brought from OcUK and built by myself, would I notice A huge difference in performance?

Not a huge difference, no. You'd notice a much bigger difference for much less spend if you stuck in a quad, overclocked it, and upgraded to a better GPU than a 460 - like 6870 (or wait a few weeks for 69xx), 470, or 480. Then wait till the new stuff just round the corner before upgrading mobo/cpu/ram.

In gaming probably not, but overclock your cpu for small performance increase.

Link below shows your cpu against the i5 760.

cobblers!!! :(

Ignor the link, when doing it I scrolled a bit to far and put the AMD six core on there :(

The Asus Sabertooth gets good reviews from various reviews sites :)

on the link i changed it to my CPU vs the i5 then compared, the i5 is faster but not lightyears faster.

Would buying the SSD Give me that extra boost worth having for the money?

Oh yes :D

Just upgraded my laptop to the 120gb OCZ vortex 2 and I use the 60gb in my main system as the boot drive and common used programs. Rest goes on the Samsung f3 1 tb drive.
