Hi guys I have a pc which is getting a bit long in the tooth it is a ,
intel core duo e8400 3ghz
ati radeon hd 4800
4 gb ram
abit ip pro xe mother board all in an antec lanboy .I think !

it is starting to give problems and I need to up grade , I have not built 1 in a number of years so am out of the loop , I have looked around the site and came up with a speck that I could afford ,
cpu i5 4690k 3.5ghz
grafics a nivida 960 2gb
8gb crucial ballistics sport
120 gb ssd
1tb second drive
gigabyte z97 ga z97p-d3 mother board with a corsair vs 550 psu in a Corsair carbide spec-01 case , im open to changes or advice with the spec and case type iv about £600/700 to spend with a bit more if needed .

Doesn't all match aesthetically, that would cost a little more. But will see you through better for the next few years. Motherboard can do CrossFire and SLI. PSU could do SLI 960's or CrossFire 380's (if you prefer AMD), or handle an upgrade to a single 980Ti/FuryX.

4GB VRAM better than 2GB these days and for the future, even @ 1080 res. And better for 1440p res.

250GB SSD if you want to put some modern games on it that will take advantage of its speed, otherwise 120GB for OS/programs should be fine.

8GB RAM is still okay, but DDR3 is very cheap right now and is a good time to go for 16GB if you do a lot of multitasking or photo/vid editing.

Case may not exactly keep costs down but doesn't cost that much and has lots of room for improving your rig.

thanks for the quick reply Danny75 those components look very nice , I have a couple of ? would skylake be much more expensive and would a prebuilt system be any better for the same money give or take a few pounds

Think about £50. Unless you also add a PCIEx4 M.2 SSD to take advantage of that feature on Skylake mobos. Will spec one now.

Well the short answer is no, because you get more bang for buck without a build fee involved. Then again, there might be exceptions such as a big discount on a pre-built system (not that I've noticed). And also the possible peace of mind you get with a 3-year warranty (or more if you pay extra) from OcUK on the whole build.
