Hi there, First post in GH for years and years it seems. Been away from the hardware scene for a while now so i don't really know that much. I'm thinking of upgrading both software (XP 32 to Vista 64?) and hardware in the coming months. Not really because my rig is slow for what i do but just because its old and starting to crash a lot more often. Current rig is as follows.
Enermax Liberty 620watt PSU.
AMD X2 4400 (2200mhz underclocked to 2000mhz for stability, never was great at overclocking and now it wont even run at std)
Asus A8N SLI premium.
2x1gig corsair PC4000
150gig raptor (boot)
250gig maxtor
200gig maxtor (old boot, still bootable)
750gig seagate
8800gtx 768mb (and 2nd one from friend of family next week).
SB audigy 1
Now, this runs all games i play fine, since i rarely play anything intensive anyway, Aces High 2 is a bit slow at times and i think that's more down to slow CPU. HL2 i sometimes play and again, at times its slow. Other than that I've been playing old /strat games like Simcity4, Hearts of Iron and Navyfield. None of which really need a great deal of power.
What i need to replace is, CPU, MB, Ram, possibly PSU and defo the case (gfx card and hdd have 2mm between them).
Ive been looking at Dual or quad core Intels. Im thinking a faster dualcore would be better for me. So its either the quad Q6600 or Dual E8500?
Motherboard was going to be a Asus P5Q deluxe but now, with the option of getting a 2nd 8800gtx i have to use a Nvidia board? Might not use 2 cards anyway.
Ram, was looking to get Corsair again, 2gig if i stick with WinXP, 4gig if i get Vista 64bit. PC6400 or PC8500+?
Cases i been looking at Antec's either the Gaming 900 case, or P182. I'm really not sure what will be best. Ive been leaning to the P182 though.
Looking at spending £550 max.
oh and i could do with a good cooler for my 8800gtx's since they are running at 90c lately
