New System - My first build

Hey all,

Im new and i want to purchase a new computer as the one im using now is getting a bit old.
I though i would try and build it myself this time round instead of buying a full system as i think it would be more fun and everything in my computer is exactly how i want it to be.

So... my budget is no more than £2000, i want to be able to play all the next-gen games and have vista ultimate. Basically a system that'll be good for another couple of years.

I've made a list of compenents im thinking will be good but im not too sure about motherboard and hard drives as i dont know much about that.

If you guys could give me some feed back on this list or maybe improve it that would be great.

I knew the first spec came in suspiciously easily under budget.

As a personal thing, unless you're dead set on Vista, i'd maybe consider giving it a while, some of the drivers are really quite iffy for Vista, GFX drivers especially. If you took vista off for now you could get some really tasty Cosair 8500 memory.

Personally, if it was me id get a Raptor X for main drive, change the case to a thermaltake armour or kandalf and remove the 120mm fan, but thats just me lol, either way its a lovely spec!

Higgins makes a good spec there.

I'd say though you'll be wasting money getting a quad core at this moment in time. No single program fully utilises 2 cores, let alone 4. And you are seriously paying a premium for it.

I'd swap that quad core for a dual core e6600, swap the DVD writer for a SATA one (Samsung/NEC), add another deskstar and RAID them, and add another 8800 GTX and it would still come in for less than £2k.

You'd still have an excellent spec PC going for Higgens' spec though.

I think im going to go for the raptor drive as my main. For the case i really want to have the antec 900 as i really like the look of it. Will the EVGA 680 motherboard fit in that case ?
