hey guys,

my system is getting a bit old in the tooth

E6600 @ 3.1ghz
150gb raptor
8800GT

so looking a a reasonable upgrade and after seeing the today only deals was wondering what you think of this system ?

dont really want to spend much more however i could upgrade a few bits if needed. I intend to take the 650W thermaltake PSU from my current system, as well as possibly the 150 gb raptor as a windows only boot drive, and maybe raid the 2 WD's for storage or just keep the WD's and sell the raptor.

Niow I am definitely interested in overclocking and would want to get at least 3.6ghz or more out the yorkfield, so have i picked the best components for this ?

anyway what you think ?

What do you plan to use it for mainly?

Mainly gaming, or other demanding applications?

Also, can you carry over any other stuff from your current system like case fans, DVD drive?

the case is a no, fans maybe 2 120mm tri cools, the DVDs are ide and i would prefer to go sata.

i do game a bit but my main games are the likes of DOW2, Diablo, C&C so not the most demanding of games.

The main thing i do play allot of is FM2010 so the new system would have to be good for that.

the i5 and DDR3 route looks like a decent upgrade path though for maybe a extra £100 or so. will look into that.

Here is my spec, it is a few quid more than the s775 one above.

My rationale is:

- It sounds like you play games that emphasise CPU power over graphics, so getting the faster CPU makes sense.
- The Samsung F3s are faster than the WDs due to higher platter density, here is a review.
- The sapphire GPU is slightly more than the powercolour, but the sapphire warranty is much better from what I hear.
- I downgraded the CPU cooler to the ACF7, however this is still a great cooler are will keep even an overclocked i5 under control. Also, the ACF7 comes with MX2 thermal paste pre-applied, so no additional paste.
- No added case fans as the antec tri cools set to low will work brilliantly.
-The motherboard is one of the cheapest P55 boards, but it does support RAID 0 & 1 and everything that you need it to do. However, if you plan to do crossfire in the future then you will want one of the more expensive P55 boards with proper x8x8 crossfire.

Hope this is of some help.
