new system or what

Ok, I don't do a lot of gaming but do enjoy WOT. Now I have a pair of desktops that are getting on a bit. One is an i7 920 and the other a i7 930. Both have 6 gig ram and both have a GTX970. Both have an Asus Essence STX2 soundcards. Both have SDD on C drive with plenty of room. Running Win7 Pro (x64). Now I'm struggling to maintain smooth play after installing aslains XVM mods that are not supposed to have too much of an effect on game play but even so, I am loosing 10-20 FP's with even the most simple of changes. I have found I'm having to lower game settings to compensate and that is NOT what ibought the GTX970's for ... so are my CPU's getting beyond the usable stage ?? How can I tell ... I'm not into all the modern games as I said but those that I do play I want to have enjoyment. Especially if I am looking at buying two new monitors to get up to 1440 .... at present I'm running two 24 inch screens (one each desktop) and they are an old Samsung T240 and a Dell 2410 .. advice welcome ..

Looking at the reviews of the mod u will be taking a hit of 10FPS with mod.

so how do i know if I am unable to reach maximum frame rates or whether my system is too slow ??

Try turning off xmv see if theres any diffrence.

there sure is a difference but is the difference so great to effect system performance .. is my system on the brink of being outdated?

I would say yes , a lot of people are toying with the same dilema to upgrade to skylake or haswell-e.

You could overclock your cpu and gain a bit more performance.

Those i7 are well still more the capable today.

If you have a half decent cooler then overclock to 4ghz for a massive performance increase

The other thing is too Check your ram issue as 6gb might not be cutting it.

I've had a go at overclocking in the past and just gave up ... I'm not that up with being able to do it and/or make alterations .. I'm running corsair H70 and H90 coolers with dual fans on both systems though.
