Hello all,

Been building my systems using Intel for many generations. I now no longer need multi use set ups and the machine is pretty much used for light 3d tinkering and gaming so decided to give new AMD chips a go. I got hold off 9800x3d at below mspr at recent sale so wanted to build a new system. I have been reading online a lot about the issues with this CPU and MB combos so I am aware of the risks involved in pairing it with Asrock.

My current set up is
11900ks
Gigabyte aorus z590 pro ax
Ddr4 32 GB
5090 fe
Artic LF II 280 in Lian li 011 air mini
MSI 1000w 80 gold

Obviously would love to reuse as much as I can in the new set up so was looking at only upgrading MB, CPU and buy some ram. I put the list in pc part picker https://************.com/list/7XpDfd
and total power consumption at max is calculated 932 w. For now at least my GPU is undervolted and maxing out at about 500ish watts for heavy loads. So thinking maybe I don't need to upgrade the PSU just yet, what are your thoughts?

Another q is MB, is going with Asrock Nova 870e sound like a deathwish? Would rather not spend more than 350 on a new mb, the cheaper the better. I do have 2 pciex4 ssd's plus need for 5x16, 2x SATA ssds. Thinking about it I probably (at least for now) have no use for usb 4, I don't use WiFi and ATM only have 1gb broadband (probs going to upgrade it at the next cycle to higher bandwidth). I like having a choice to oc but nowadays see little need for it, I'm mainly underclocking if anything.

As I said, the use case on the machine is predominantly gaming but I do tincker with drawing my own schemas (or borrowing and tweaking others) for 3d printing +cad.

Could you please help to make my mind up and recommend:
1. PSU - do I really need 1000+?
2. MB - should I avoid Asrock? What are other alternatives you could recommend for under 350?
3. Ram sticks - was going to get cheapest Hynix 2x16 or 2x32 6000 cl30s and if needed oc it. Still not sure how much memory I need to future proof.
4. Do I need to update anything else?

Many thanks in advance

Agree. The 9800X3D will use a lot less power than a 11900KS too, so you should be fine.

From what you have said, you can safely look at B650E or B850 instead of X870E.

In reference to ASRock, I'd personally not be worried with the latest BIOS applied, but I haven't been following the reddit thread(s) in any detail.

Nah, I'd keep what you have.

3. Ram sticks - was going to get cheapest Hynix 2x16 or 2x32 6000 cl30s and if needed oc it. Still not sure how much memory I need to future proof.
64GB would almost certainly be fine for the realistic lifetime of the PC.

4. Do I need to update anything else?
Looks fine.

You'll have to list the specs I'm afraid, the site links to competitors.

Thanks a lot for the input, will look into those two chipsets.

Had no idea pc partpicker would be censored. Here is my plan
Asrock Nova x870e (maybe)
9800x3d (got it)
Arctic LF II 280 (Max my case can take)
2x32gb ddr5 6000mhz cl30 - whatever is the cheapest, I don't go for RGB anyway
5090fe (got it)
Samsung 980 Pro 1gb (got it)
SK Hynix Platinum 2gb (got it)
Crucial 2 TB SSd - sata1(got it)
Toshiba 2 tb HDD - sata2 (back up and random stuff storage) (got it)
MSI MPG ATX 3.0 1000w gold (got it)
Lian Li o11 air mini (got it)
5x 140 fans (got it)
3x 120 fans (got it)

Speakers connected via optical port
VR, and 2x monitors
