Asus Rampage V, 5930k, Geil 32GB RAM. Booted to usual Samsung 840 Pro SSD, bluescreen right before the Windows 7 login. Installed new copy of Windows 7 on another SSD, everything working good. Now I have all drives plugged in, and can access the Samsung fine from other SSD, but can't seem to boot into it.

Error code: 0x0000007B and motherboard hard drive fault LED is lit up.

It's not a RAM problem or anything as I have switched out all other parts before focussing on hard drives. Maybe some BIOS setting or something?

More info: my upgrade was from Asus Rampage II and i7 920. Same version of Windows. Maybe the Rampage V deals differently with boot drives than the Rampage II? Anyone know what's up?

Thanks.

Try changing from AHCI to IDE (or the opposite) in the bios, A 7B bluesceen is usually related to that.

It worked lol. Should I re-install Windows on the Samsung whilst in AHCI mode? Apparantly AHCI is the one to choose for SSDs.

Also the motherboard splits the 10 SATA ports, so I can have 6 in AHCI and 4 in IDE for example. Should I keep the Samsung in the IDE set with other HDs in the AHCI set? Or just select both sets to IDE? Thanks.

Yep that should sort it. I'm guessing the drive was in IDE mode when windows was originally installed and either you have changed it or the bios settings have reset it to AHCI meaning windows cane boot. A reinstall in AHCI more should fix it.
