Hey all, just built the system up yesterday, got it all sorted now (keeping xp instead of vista for now)

E6300 @ Stock w/ AC7 using thermal pad that came with the AC7 set via bios to Qfan control (Not getting extra setup options in bios like i was told i should do :()
Asus P5N-E SLi
2GB OCZ PC6400 Ultra Low LAtency RAM
EVGA 8800 320MB Superclocked

Just wanted to check all is looking ok really :) I was thinking MB temp might be a tad high?

Also GPU is sitting at about 62C idle? :o

Hmm..i see, wierdest thing is its running in an Akasa Eclipse case, lots of room, 120mm fan pushing & pulling the air, any advice on what would be a help then? :)

What were you using to get all temps in one Mishima?

I think at the weekend when i get a chance i'll reseat the CPU cooler for sure, strange thing is, when in WoW (have been for 3 hours)

Nvidia Monitor shows GPU as 68C (+6)
Asus probe Shows CPU as 46 (+2)
CoreTemp shows: 51/54

I'm so confused right now, but nothing has crashed or smells funny, so thats a good sign! :D

Ooops, sorry about the few questions pertaining to the same thing with the answer already posted! T'was late! :D

Will try a reseat asap! :)

Thanks!

Just a quick update from what everest found:

So CPU cool...cores hot, motherboard hot? I know i have pretty sufficient cooling with the 120mm at the front of the case and the back is pushing out a gale, gfx temps could be high due to the x-fi 2 slots below it maybe?

I'll be giving the cooler a reseat asap though! :D

depends what volts you have going through the northbridge and cpu as well. The key to temps is volts, not speed :)

Well as on the first pic, my vcore is 1.31, not sure what other readings i need to give you for that mate? :)

Not too sure if thats high for the motherboard you have, different boards have different NB and SB cooling solutions, before I got my case my temps were 10C+ on my motherboard though. Best thing to do yeah is to when you have a chance reseat that CPU applying a thin layer of thermal paste. You only need a very thin layer, too much will ruin it.

Ack! now i've been told thin layer and pea shaped dollop to squash!

Decisions!!

Right now i'm crapping it!

Mobo is down to 34, but core 1 & core 2 are up to 53/56 at IDLE!!

This is with the 1.28V and the AC7 fan on full blast

Everything is telling me different now so just very confused! Would LOVE to believe asus probe, but i don't know! Another reseat in order? or a Tuniq? :)

Really not sure if it could be attributed to too much AS5? or not Enough?

With case sides off, the temp on both cores is down from between 57-54 ( ) to 47-51ish (CPU temp in Everest is still 25c), i'll try lowering the v-core a tad more tomorrow (Already late for birthday dinner for gf's granddad!) But please mate, any extra advise you have but be greatly appreciated as i'm really not enjoying this worrying :(

Thanks so much so far guys!

Thanks Mishima, am at my gf's right now so just bit the bullet & ordered a Noctua for if the worst comes to the worst, i'm thinking there must be some VERY poor contact between the heatsink & cpu right now, when i took off the heatsink for the first time with the stock thermal paste, only about 1/4 of the cpu was even cated with any compound, so i'm not sure if the connection between the cpu & cooler was pants or what, but i'm prepared to chalk it down to experience and use the Noctua on monday, but until then i need to use the pc for 10+ hours of work tomorrow, 7 on saturday and 7 on monday, so i'm thinking of calling it a day with the Arctic, taking it out, cleaning the CPU up, banging the stock intel one on for a few days and just hoping that works ok for now, would that be a good idea just to maintain stability?

Also, as i'm a WoW addict *shudders at the thought of 3 days without playing it* What kind of temps on the cores would be expected w sotck intel cooler? and would anything of under 45c or so, per core be ok for gaming with? (Don't think wow is too cpu intensive!!)

Hoping the Noctua will fit in my Akasa Eclipse case, its the size of a bloody aircraft hanger so it'd better :D

Thanks - The compulsive buyer!

Sure thing, thanks for your help Mishima, all i want to do right now is get it safe, and stable for when working, i hate to have to worry about it and just want to get piece of mind with it for the next couple days (I get back home tomorrow 30 mins before pc is needed for a big online work conference call) so i was thinking if i put on the Intel one for a few days, say it idles at 46ish maybe? per core, i'd be happy & content and can live with the noise for a day or two, i just don't wanna load everest, see 60+ temps and foul myself :D

I would love to keep going with the AC7, but it would also reassure me my chip was ok if the Intel cooler does its job, but i totally see what you're saying mate :)

I just honestly want to say, thankyou to all of you who have replied here & helped thus far, helped me to calm down after the occurance earlier and i REALLY appreciate the time you have gone to in order to give me feedback and help, really helpful here & i am very appreciative of your help & advice, hope that noctua is something very special!!

Thanks....AGAIN! :D

Arghh just saw the Noctua is out of stock :( daaamn!! But i will be waiting avidly!!

Will let you know tomorrow how the stock intel one does, system is only 3 days old in ths build :D

Thanks AGAIN! :D

Right, well back home now, and temps are looking like this:

Coretemp:

Core 0 - 44c (now 48)
Core 1 - 46c (now 51)

Asus probe II
Cpu - 38c
Mobo - 30c

Nvidia Monitor gpu - 52c

Avalance:

Mobo - 33c
Cpu - 25c
Cpu Core 0 - 45c
Cpu Core 1 - 47c
Aux 38c

This is with the AS7 on full pelt and the side off, called OcUK and they actually did have one Noctua left and are shipping it to me to get here tomorrow (Saturday) :)

All in all, i'm confused, but hoping tomorrow all will be fine!! :)

Hi all, just a quick update on how everything seems to be going..

Ordered a Noctua on Saturday night after finally finding them in stock somewhere, got home from the gf's this morning and decided it was time to have another crack at it!

Turned it on, core idles were around 54/56, sod this i thought, working this evening, so i have all day to try anything i can think of..

AC7 comes off, for the umpteenth time..

Fiddle with stock HS and have real trouble getting the clips in, get lunch, try again, clips being absolute little *insert fatherless expletive* watch top gear same pushpin trouble, scream in terror, watch fresh prince of bel air sorf ocuk forums on lappy for 45 mins, last try with stock HS/fan give up, look dissaprovingly at it, groan with displeasure, clean off the CPU & AC7 and get ready for mounting number 11...if not more!

After about 20 mins of getting ready for more dissapointment, i push it all back together, blob of AS5 in the middle of the CPU, one pin plays havoc with me, scream, gently (yep, still got some patience left lol) remove the AC7, notice a bit of the lower middle of the CPU hasn't got the AS5 spread, add a tiny wee smidgen, grab AC&, pray, push the little bugger back on and get all clips in (Yep, about bloody time)

Fired up the PC thinking *If it just idles under bloody 50, i'll be happy*

So now, with the case side off, AC7 on full and after having it on 10-15 mins, i'm seeing this (Vcore is dropped to 1.28 in bios, showing 1.26 in Avalanche)

So hopefully...maybe...just maybe i've finally nailed the SOB!! If i can get idle temps around 40c with case side on and Ac7 on 1700rpm, i'm gonna be SUCH a happy bunny after this week of hell!! :D

Fingers crossed for the future!!

All in all, i think thats 15 reseats :) never give up!! :D
