here is my new system

CPU : Core 2 Duo 6600,
CPUFan : Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro
PSU : Seasonic s12-600
MOBO : Asus P5WDH Deluxe
RAM : 2GB GSkill HZ PC6400
Case : Asaka Mirage 62
Drives: 2 Maxtor DiamondMax 10 and WD Raptor
Case Fans :AcoustiFan Dustproof 120

No software installed apart from XP. Machine is just idling

Don't know much about it, but just downloaded Core Temp and Speedfan.

No overclocking done -

Core Temp is giving me
TCaseMax = 85C
Core 1 = 63C
Core 2 = 64C

Speedfan is giving me

Temp1 = 43C
Temp2 = 43C
Temp3 = 46C
HD0 = 33C
HD1 = 30C
HD2 = 30C

The core Temp value in partlicular seem way too hot - any ideas?

Thanks

I started out with Artcic Freezer, then went back to Stock fan, and now have replaced stock fan with Freezer again, so I guess the layer of TIM is pretty ragged by now, so it could be it needs a clean and a new layer of TIM.

Mirage is pretty good in terms of Room and component Access (slide out mobo tray made things a breeze), but even with all these "quiet" components, its still not as quiet as I'd like - I can hear a distinct hum (gfx is quiet too - HIS X1900GT ICeQ Silent).

I also bought the Akasa Paxmate Acoustic foam which should make the case a bit quieter, however I wouldnt dream of putting that in until I get the temps down.

Cheers

well I solved the problem. This is my first build and it showed.

I read the manual for the arctic freezer and it said "point the fan so the air flows to the back of the case".

So I pointed it with the fan facing the back of the case. I've just looked at the box the cooler came in and it says "The fan draws cold air in and blows hot air out through the heatsink blades".

So I had the thing on the wrong way around!

Just reversed it and Core 1 reads 45C, core 2 47C.

Much Much better!

What a lemon....

Incidentally, Core Temp gives me those readings - 45 and 47 for each core.

However my mobo (ASUS P5WDH Deluxe) comes with its own monotoring program called PC Probe II.

This gives me a CPU temp of 29C!

Bit of a difference there...

They're using different sensors. CoreTemp is the one to go by.

Lol, just realised mine's backwards too! I'm not gonna change it though, as it's a pain to fit the 64 Pro when everything's in the case, plus my idle temp is 35C anyway :)
