New system - transfer from old?

My Vista system is not very well and i am contemplating a new system. However, each time i have had a new system it is a pain setting things up the way i am used to.

When i got my new phone there was software that transferred everything over, files, folders, accounts, apps etc, is there something similar for PC's? And that works.

I have a load of software installed (some which i no longer have keys for) and am concerned about losing some of these.

Any thoughts?

Create a virtual machine from current system to use on your new one for the stuff that cant be reinstalled.

There are also several programs than will gather product keys.
