Bought myself a nice i7 skylake system, but can't get it to boot from a HDD. I used my old ssd first a and it comes up with a whea uncorrectable error. I tried installing win 10 onto another ssd and it freezes before the install loads up. I also tried a HDD with a cpy of win7 on it, but resets after the win7 logo. I can boot miniXP of hirens CD.
Temps on bios are 22c
I think I'm missing some setting in the bios?
Motherboard is gigabyte z170x gaming 7
CPU is i7 6700k
A google search says it maybe a faulty CPU?

Has legacy or uefi not sata ide, as far as I can see.

I have been getting it to boot a few times, but don't have half the services running, think it was from earlier problems, tried to run scf /scannow, but even using sfc /scanfile="full path of file" /offbootdir=C:\ /offwindir=c:\windows. I still have Windows Resource Protection issues even from the command line from windows USB.
Can't seem to install win10 on new ssd either

When you are trying to install 10 onto the new SSD, disconnect any other drives.

Check the boot order so its boot drive first then SSD second, or Windows mangager (named something like that that) first then SSD second.

Are you install 10 from a DVD drive or unpacked ISO on a USB stick (which the board can boot from).

UEFI is what i would pick.

Is the usb formatted as one partition?

What BIOS is the board running? it should say on one of the bios pagesS.
