Hi All,

I've had a few threads about my new system from ordering to my PSU not working (Currently in the post to OcUK). I can't get my system to POST, although the fans and hard drive do spin, using a spare PSU (Antec Smartpower 350W).

I'll be running the following on a table, with anti-static under the mobo:

e2180
GA-P35C-DS3R
OcUK X1950 512MB
Ballistix 1GB 6400 (one stick)
500GB Seagate Sata II drive
Scythe Ninja Plus Rev.B CPU Cooler
Antec Smartpower 350W

Hopefully, lots of nice people will read this thread and give me lots tips for things to check when I get home from work tonight. Someone did start a thread on monday/tuesday with a check list but I can't find it any more.

I've done the following in no particular order several times.

Checked all of the power wires.
I've reset the CMOS.
Switched the ram position.

Should I re-seat the CPU?

Haven't tried it with out any ram yet, I'm thinking this should error and make it beep. If it doesn't does this mean the mobo's dead? I don't think it's beeped so far but I haven't been able to check the speaker

All suggestions are welcome, I'll try anything (with reason) to get a booting PC.

I'd strip it down to barebones and less and then try it and see if you get any beep codes. Such as take everything out including the hard drives, and try and power it up with just the cpu in the motherboard, therefore no graphics or ram. It should beep at both not being in, but if you don't get any beeps then I'd maybe start looking at a motherboard problem.

Tried barebones, just the CPU and cooler, and I didn't get any beeps. The speaker works and I also had my main speaker into the main speaker socket.

I've read the trouble shooting section of the manual further and it mentions plugging the CPU fan in. Previously I’ve been using the system pins at the ninja is a 3 pin plug not 4. Thinking this might make a difference I plugged the Intel cooler instead of the ninja fan (the heatsink was still attached) but fan would complete a rotation. Almost as if it wasn't getting enough power.

Does it sound like my old PSU isn't up to the job or is my mobo dead? Or both?

Thanks

Could be PSU, unlikely though, but at least you've narrowed it down to CPU (unlikely), motherboard or PSU. As you've stated though the system does power up but doesn't post, however I would do a paperclip test, follow the instructions and see if the fan spins. If it does then the PSU isn't likely to be damaged and I don't think it would struggled to power up the motherboard and cpu and nothing else. I would personally be looking at the motherboard being duff, or something is being missed that I can't think of.

Thanks for the help Flibby,

I know the PSU works as I've taken it from my old system which I'm using right. What would the paperclip test prove? When I said 4 pin I meant the mobo 4 pin not the modular type, if that's what you're referring to.

Does anyone else have any ideas?

The only things I have plugged into the board are the 24 pin and the 4pin power supply, the three pin fan and the CPU.

I don't think there's anything else I need.

My new PSU should arrive today and if that doesn't work. I'll have to go to my local comp fair at the weekend to pick a new mobo up. Then send the dead one back to where I bought it and as for a refund.

It's such a pain in the ar*e.

It was the PSU. Plugged my new HX520 in and it boots with no problems. Only need to buy a new wireless card which is vista 64 compatible, thought I had compatible driver for my asus wifi-g card but I can't find it any more.

I'll start overclocking the E2180 in the next few days
