Systems been upgraded a few times, thinking of buying vista but not sure it to use current kit or upgrade

AMD X2 4400+ (1mb cache per core) Skt 939
3gb Ram (old 3200 stuff :( )
Asrock board (normally buy good board but i wanted PCI-E + AGP)
Geforce 6800GT (AGP)
2 x IBM 180gxp HDD (used to be in raid but was too woried about one failing in last rebuild)
SB Audigy 2 Value

While i hope i am just hanging on, but most bits in there are well past there best. HDD's must be 4 years old. Gfx and some of the memory are 3 years and the rest was at best mid range when new. Bougt Asrock board + chip about 6 months ago as a last upgrade while i could still use same memory.

The main thing that puts me off a new system is i could spend £500+ and end up feeling no quicker than current system, but core 2 duo is very tempting.

I think the main weekness of current system are those old HDD's so perhaps a SATA2 or 10k SCSI drive could make a difference? I would say new GFX card but seeing i no longer game don't think it would make a difference.

All recommendations greatly appreciated!

i'd stick with that system if it was me, if it does what you need no point upgrading.

could maybe try a sata drive/raptor for you're system install and keep the other drives for data storage.

Why not just buy yourself a couple of new hard drives and keep what you have?

I'm gaming on the system in my sig, its not struggling......

Can't see why you'd want to upgrade other then you have a few old parts.... so what just upgrade the parts that worry you, ie. the hard drives....

thanks guys, think a new hdd or two would put my mind at ease. Was after an excuse to upgrade but there is no real reason.

When hardware moved fast 4-5 years ago i couldent afford any, now i got some money its going so damn slow

edit, damn didn't realsie how cheap a 500gb hdd was

edit 2, going to go for some sata optical drivers i think. Main drive is still 4x DVD+R
