Hi all,

sorry if this has kinda been covered, but I want a definative answer from people who know their stuff.

Currently I have

Q9550 Stock speed, has been overclocked before but no difference noticed
8GB Dominator Ram 4x2 DDR3 1600
Gigabyte X48T-DQ6 Mobo
1 X WD Raptop 300GB
4 X WD 300GB for storage
1 x HD4870 2GB
etc etc

I am in the market to replace mobo, ram and CPU, everything else is fine, and I want to see a significant improvement in speed, apps, gaming etc. Main games are COD/ Apps PS CS4 and general pc work

Running Win7 X64. Have looked at i7 920 oc to 4Ghz but thats about it. Any recommendation please.

Cheers

You say you want to replace mobo, ram and CPU, but I reckon they are the best parts of you system.

You'd see better gains in everything if you got a quicker GPU and invested in a SSD.

Maybe Radeon HD 5850/70 and a Samsung PB22-J 128GB.

That would give you better results than getting an i7 and keeping your current GPU and Disks.

But I'm sure other speed freaks will have better ideas than me.

Well, Im open to suggestions. My only worry about new CPU/Mobo/Ram is will be relatively expensive and I'll be disappointed with the results. My current PC is fast, even at stock and as I said, I dont notice any real improvement oc'ing it to 3.6ghz, which makes me wonder about going for the new CPU etc.

Lets see how the thread develops with further suggestion, but I like your thinking.

Cheers

If you saw no real gains when overclocking, then you wont see any real gains going to i7. Just get a new GPU if you want a noticable boost, and if you're rich, a SSD too.
