New system

I see you've decided against the water now, but just in case you change your mind, the mayhems aurora range has a recommended lifespan of only 6 months in the loop compared to the 2 years of the mayhems pastel.

They're quite different. Not to mention there's no reviews as they're not out yet :p

A sandy bridge i7 is overkill for a mainly gaming PC as the games won't make use of the extra threads.

That's my red hot crack at it fella minus the watercooling.

It's slightly more than Beej's and i would wait till the end of the month for IB, however....

I went for the i7 as you said you will be doing video editing etc. 16GB of RAM colour coded to the mobo. The mobo may seem OTT but it is a top model and includes a 3.5 inch break out box for USB3 on the case. If USB3 connectivity isnt an issue for you then the extreme 4 version is cheaper.

The case maybe budget (i do own one myself) but you get 4 120mm fans, a digital temp display and fan controller, it also has cable management which is made easier by that modular PSU I included. I use this case a lot in builds and overclocked many a i5K to 4.4Ghz with low temps coupled with a gelid heatsink i also added.

Beej does have a heftier heatsink in his build, if you wanted to drop to an i5K and use that cooler instead I wouldn't blame you. He did however mess up again and spec a 22 speed DVD drive when a 24 is the same price ;)

^ That looks pretty good :) Nice to have a few options.

I did indeed spec the 'wrong' DVD oops :p However, wouldn't that RAM get in the way of the Gelid? So we're even! ;)

Good idea on the Zalman with built in fan controller :)

I thought it was amazing myself for the same price as yours nigh on lol

I had managed to ninja edit it. The 16GB gold vengenance was in my basket before for colour coding to the gold on the mobo for a previous build. Posted, then noticed the low profile black vengenance would be better alongside an aircooler and works out cheaper too. Well spotted but i did correct the mistake straight away lol

That extreme 4 loses the USB 3 box so no ports on the front of the Z9 case, i imagine you could find a card reader with USB3 ports if you looked. That keeps the "flashy" gold RAM and the closed loop watercooler will be well clear of the RAMs aggressive heatspreaders. I prefer my previous spec with the LP RAM and aircooler though, just adding another option as you say Beej :)

You might want to remove the link to that site. This is the 'Overclockers UK' forums and they sell stuff, just in case you weren't aware ;)
