My aging trusty i7 930 and 460GTX are getting way past it now I need a nice new system to play on.

I dont fancy going the build it myself route (been there before although I can do It i dont get the enjoyment I once had) so I would rather buy a pre built or have OC UK build a spec to order PC for me.

In regards to Spec to order can you have a warranty on this PC like the pre built systems or not.

My budget is £1,500 I know 4k is coming through now but dont think my budget is good enough for that. I have a 1080p screen already so wont need a monitor would like a new keyboard and mouse to go with it though within the budget.
 
have you thought have just buying a new GPU, I think my CPU is older than yours and still fine

What's the rest of your spec? like PSU etc? 930 is a 1st generation cpu, so could be nice with a upgrade, especially if youve got 1500 laying around

None of these have an HDD. 250GB SSD is not enough for a gaming machine. Sure, the OP could carry over his old HDD but I'm guessing he purchased his machine around 2009 and I wouldn't trust a 7 year old HDD with my grocery shopping list, let alone a windows install.

I have a 2TB HDD for games and with only half my steam library installed it is half full. I urge you to add at least a 1TB if not a 2TB HDD to one of the builds which were suggested, which would suit you perfectly fine and be a nice upgrade.

Western Digital is generally agreed to be the best for hard drives. Their Blue drives are very good. For higher performance and longer warranty, look at the black drives. Or, if you want to pay significantly more money for significantly faster storage, look at a 1TB SSD such as a Samsung 850 EVO.

250GB is too little for games storage, but the Titan Bayonet(s) sweols has specced, comes with a 1TB HDD. That's plenty for games.

I do have a 1TB HDD, but it's only for bulk storage. I did experiment sticking some games on there, but I have a 512GB SSD for games. When it gets full, I delete something I haven't played for a while. I don't really notice much difference in performance between the SSD and HDD to be honest, so a traditional HDD will be a very cost effective solution.

WD are the best in my opinion. If you get a WD Blue drive, make sure it's a 7200RPM drive. The 5400 Blues are the re-brand of the WD Green range and aren't as fast in my opinion.
 
I personally use SSD for operating system and two or three main games. Rest of it goes on my secondary, mechanical harddrive.

If more SSDs are needed, it's very easy to purchase a second SSD at a later date, which can also be raided. But tbh, 250gb is more than ample for the avarage gamer.

dont knock older drives, if they work then they are good. my computer came with a 6gb/s 1tb and i still keep it as it has my os and everything on, but my 500gb has gone from storage to having windows 10 upgrade, so my 750gb is the extra storage still and while i have less than 200gb left on my TB it was quick to load 8.1 and everything and even switching to the win 10 drive(which like the 750 are 3gb/s drives) the loading and functioning is good.


you can have the newest/fastest drive, but you can slow it down if you fill it up or have whatever running still. ;)
