My current system used to be

i5 3570k
MSI 670GTX Twin Frozr
8GB Ram

I have now secured (After waiting about 5 weeks lol) a MSI 1080 GTX (Thought I better get it after the memory news) and I was currently planning on getting the following.

My basket at Overclockers UK:

Total: £839.02
(includes shipping: £11.10)

With the recent release of the new intel line of processors (I would prefer to stick with intel) should I switch out the processor and if so will that mean a different Motherboard.

Main components I want to lock in is the Memory, CPU and Motherboard. The rest is easy such as hard drives and whatnot but I want to make certain my new machine will last as long as my current one which has been running for 5+ years nearly 24/7

The main use of this system is gaming so I was unsure if just an i5 would suffice or whether I should spend extra for the i7.

I appreciate any and all comments / suggestions to aid me.

PS
I do have a preference about the SATA ports though, I would like them to just be 1 controller and not 2 like my current motherboard.

Hi

I wouldn't buy an i7 7700K now that CoffeeLake is here (Although limited at present). If you are just gaming then the i5 8600K which is a 6 core/6 thread cpu looks like the value cpu if you want an unlocked chip. The i7 8700K is the 6 core/12 thread and this will be better for you if you do things like twitch streaming whilst gaming or video editing/encoding etc.

Have a look through the Z370 motherboards as they are the only ones compatible with CoffeeLake.

you will also need a cpu cooler if you don't already have one.

you could look at the teamgroup 3200mhz rgb ram as a cheaper alternative. same goes for the psu. a seasonic focus gold 750w is £50 cheaper and has a 10 year warranty. it gets very good reviews.

I thought the i5 would be more than sufficient, I appreciate the confirmation and the info on the updated motherboard requirement.

Is there a PSU that comes with sleeved cables by default ?

You could see if you can find a second hand 3rd gen i7 K version to edge out another year , year and half out of your system to wait for 8 core Intel , but once that comes out, value of 4 core i7s will take a bigger then then with 6 core coffee lake

The only good psu I know of is the White version of the Corsair RMx 750W/850W which comes with White sleeved cables. It doesn't look like OCUK stock it though, so you would have to look elsewhere if you wanted it.
