No sense to upgrade with what you have there now.
At summer (or when ever AMD releases Zen2 CPUs) 9900K matching processing power is likely available for fair £200, while hundred more gets 12 cores/24 threads.
Next-consoles likely come with that 8c/16t Zen2, so multiplatter games made for those are going to demand lot from PCs, which need to run all the bloatware/overhead of Wintoys and other stuff.
Instead of spending lots of money to something with bad value for money and holding value even worser, start by making sure you've got that other aspect of gaming immersion at proper level.
And I don't mean some gaming/multimedia speaker sets or gaming trinket headsets.

What games you playing, only thing that will have your cores screaming is BFV , COD and As:O

Is gaming at 1080p high Hz or 1440p high Hz then 9700k, 9900k is a waste of cash . And 9700k on deal for £350 so a little more then ryzen 2700x currently .
Z390 Aorus board for £180 and should be good . Reuse current ram .
If your able to hold out till July then great, should be some cpus flying around

I'd hang tight for a few months unless you're desperate to scratch that itch, in which case go with orbitalwalsh's suggestion.
