There's currently offer on brand new 1st gen 32GB Surface with Touch Cover for £249.

I need a tablet for parents, when they are at a client and need to do some last minute work in Excel or Word, so only really need Office apps and internet browser, even if it's IE. Keyboard is just a bonus and ~16GB storage space left is no big issue either.

would that be a good choice for the price? The only 2 options I'm considering atm are Asus TF100 and *possibly* new Nexus 10.

opinions? buy now? wait for another price drop? buy something else?

not interested in "full" laptops, they'll be getting Lenovo T440s as the main work machine, so this will be more of an addition.

I think the Asus device looks like it represents the best value in that market. It has had good reviews pretty much everywhere to the point where experts are actually asking how Asus could make any money out a machine with such a spec.

I had a look at it in PC world today and I was quite impressed. Screen was a bit of a worry for me prior to viewing it but its fine. I am not sure there is an unmissable benefit to 1080p screens on 10 inch devices. The surface Rt and Surface 2 were side by side and the difference in screen quality was perceptible but only marginally so in my eyes.

Much and I like the Surface hardware with its stand and magnesium finish it simply does not look like good value when you consider that its running RT. The T100 comes with Office and is full fat Windows 8 giving flexibility to use it as a laptop replacement. My Dell laptop is constantly crashing now so I think I will be picking up a T100.
