Hi just been connected just this minute, I need a bit of info from TalkTalk folk! I am currently connected @ 16107 kbit/s but with a 13.1 SNR.

Now with my old Sky I was connected much faster around the 22000 Kbit/s but my SNR was around 7/6. Does the line improve over time or do TalkTalk use higher profiles?

Many thanks.

If it's a completely new connection, give it about 2 weeks for the line to settle, it's usually within this timeframe they will play around with your speeds to give you the best possible one your line can handle. The first couple of days is usually the most unstable, but after that it should settle into a much higher, stable speed (hopefully closer to your old Sky connection).

On the other hand... moving to TalkTalk... not sure that was a good idea... Their services aren't exactly reliable...

I've been with TalkTalk for over a year with no problems. Far more reliable for me than BT. Although I do have a Billion 7800n so I can tweak my own SNR. Very handy for acheiving a fast and stable connection.

So far so good!! Currently maxing out at 1.48MB/s on a various downloads such as a few P2P and File Hippo. Speed Tests are;

Just hoping it can get quicker as there is much more my line can handle, only been next door to the cab! Currently still at 12.8 SNR

Sky took 2 weeks to sort out and they mentioned this in a letter and was only connected at first to 4Mb/s this rose daily. It seems Talk Talk don't do this?

ADSL (Sync) Summary
System uptime: 21:29:35

Hope the above helps :)

Your noise margin being at over 12dB on download is affecting the speed your getting (if the noise margin is dropped to the levels you had with sky, then you should be able to get around the same download speeds).

That is what I am hoping, just was wondering if Talk Talk folk had the same issue. Sky sent me a letter out saying the line would be in training for the two weeks so it improved. Talk Talk have not said such information. I may just give them a ring next week if nothing has changed, see if they can lower the SNR to 6 or 7.

Same thing happened to me recently when I switched to a provider that uses TalkTalk LLU. Sync speed dropped from 23MBit to 15MBit because the SNR margin was set at 12db.

I asked for it to be reduced to 6db, but that only pushed the sync up to 20Mbit. Whatever hardware TT are using in my local exchange doesn't seem to be all that efficient.

Well I seem to be having a problem with my line :(

Managed to get the SNR profile set to 6, ever since the past 3 days the router has lost sync at around 5 am. Seems to be around this point according to the router log. This in turn has made my SNR profile back to 12. I never had any issues with Sky in over 3 years set at 6.

I have no idea what is going on. All the wiring is the same just a different provider :confused:
