New Technology Implementations

Looking at talking to people who have actually implemented some new technology in the areas i'll list below.

This is all in relation to a manufacturing/industrial environment as this has quite big implications on some of the technologies...

A couple obviously relate to reducing cost within an IT department.

RFID (Radio frequency ID)
Wireless (Secure encryption only, must be government approved)
Handheld / portable devices
Telephone/PC connecivity (VoIP)
WAN/LAN
Use of open sware (sharing of source code amongst companies)
Touchscreen technology
Digital Signatures
Voice activated technology
Thermal Imaging/photography/digital imaging

I'll really appreciate it if anyone who's got experience with the above areas can throw some input in and if you want to talk outside of this thread, let me know and we'll sort something as it's more than likely easier.

That's quite disheartening about the VoIP stuff.

Have you worked out why you're getting such problems? I'm looking for people who've had a success with the VoIP migration to help establish what hardware and infrastructure they've used.

We're looking at migrating a number in the few thousand of phones to VoIP

Have just finished the rollout of a 4000 extension VoIP system (including a complete LAN re-switch), my email addy is in trust if you want to fire any questions across.

I'm just trying to find some reading material so I can get an initial understanding of how a typical business VoIP network is setup. It's not a area I know but about so i'm doing some research

I can chat about RFID and Voice Activated Technology. Finished a project recently for a large car manufacturing company that used RFID, and just wrapping up a project of Voice.

What were you using RFID and Voice stuff for exactly?

Were quite big into RFID, one of the bosses here at work is on an RFID committe and looking at your location, if you are in Barrow, your just 40 mins from us.
