New Television - £1000 budget

Hi

Its been about 8 years since I last bought a television so I am a little out of the loop. I have a budget of of around £1000 but would be willing to stretch it a little bit, perhaps up to $1100 if it was really worth it.

The TV will be plugged into a media PC, blurry player and perhaps a games console

I see some OLED TVs go for £1000 now such as the LG B7 but unsure if OLED would be the best route. It seems like LED still has some advantages such as input lag, refresh rate and brightness. I am not a big gamer so input lag is not a huge consideration for me, but I might play the odd console game.

I have also read that OLED is more susceptible to burn in and as I'll be using this as a monitor it could be a problem. I am not sure how much of an issue this is with newer OLED panels though?

I don't intend to wall mount.

Thanks

I'm in a similar situation though I mainly want a new TV for gaming. Thinking about getting a 55" Samsung NU8000 (~ £800).

I did contemplate the Sony XF9005 but a 55" model is around the £1200 mark and that's more than I want to spend.

As far as I know burn in is still an issue with OLEDs and they're not suitable for gaming or as a PC monitor. They do look good though!

I use my C7 as my main PC display and game on it via my PC, no issues after having had it for over 6 months. I'm not too familiar with the Sony mentioned and am sure its great but after owning a few decent TV's and monitors, OLED was just a big step up. I love the absolute black and pop of the colours. Input lag, can't say i've noticed.

That's good to know you haven't encountered any issues. If it wasn't for burn-in worries about it being a relatively new technology I'd definitely buy an OLED panel. As you say the colours are much more vibrant and the black levels darker than anything a standard LED panel can ever match regardless of how much fancy backlighting technology they put in them.

We're kind of in an awkward place with TVs now where OLED is looking like the direction things are heading in but the TV's are still quite expensive at a bit over a grand. If you're looking to spend about a £1000 you're faced with a tough choice of whether to spend more and get an OLED panel.

My TV will be for my gaming room and not the main lounge so I don't really want to spend big money on it and initially had a figure closer to £500 in mind. Right now I'm between the Hisense 55U7A at around £600 or spending a bit more and getting the Samsung 55NU8000 for around £800.

I am also currently considering a Sony 49XF9005, if you shop around you can currently get them for £995 and that includes a free 4k blu ray player or sound bar. A few places were also offering a 6 or 7 year warranty over the standard 5.

I just looked online found the cheapest offers and went to a local shop who so far has said they will match any of them.

Thinking about it this week and will probably look to make a decision by the weekend.
