Getting a new TFT tomorrow and wondering how my 8800GTS 320Mb will cope.

Its 22" so will be running at 1680x1050. Currently run at 1440x900 and can play most things including Bioshock maxxed out. Will i be able to do this on the 22" panel at native res?

I'm sure you will be fine on current games.

Theres a lot of talk about 320 and 640mb cards, why dont you be our guinee pig and run some tests.

3 games on both screens, and compare the different resolutions.

I don't think there will be any difference.

Consider, also, that you are actually talking about a 36% increase in pixels.....that's a fair whack to shove around in a hurry - my thoughts are that the 640MB version would be notably superior @ 1680x1050......

I have a 8800 GTS 320Mb at 1690 x 1050 res and I haven't had to turn anything down...............yet;)

Dunno about the GTS but on my 8800GTX I've actually had a slight increase in FPS going from 1440x900 to 1680x1050.

World In Conflict for example, in 1280x1024 I get 2-3 less average frame rate than in 1680x1050.

In terms of 'shoving things around in a hurry' the cards are equal given that they have an identical fillrate. The only issue is whether 320meg is sufficient for textures, framebuffer etc

Well i guess we will find out tomorrow :D

I might have to turn stuff down but i get the bonus of a nice big desktop :)

I'll leave all my game settings as they are foor comparison.

I'll try Lost planet DX9 demo ( dx10 version seems very slow ), Doom3 timedemo and Bioshock with full settings as i have now :)

I had a 7900GTO in my other rig with a 20.1" 1680x1050 TFT and i didnt have any complaints with it but then i hadnt tried any really demanding games :)

Well its here :D

Lets get bioshock fired up :)

EDIT :

At 1440x900 with max details it never dropped below 60FPS.

At 1680x1050 max details it does occasionally drop to 35 - 40FPS so not too bad at all really.

The difference is the clocks, a stock 320mb GTS has a 1200mhz shader clock with 500mhz core and 1600mhz ram - a 640MB GTS has the same spec yes but it's faster which is why it performs better and which is why people who went from 320 to 640 saw a difference.

The same can be said from going from a stock 320MB to a factory OCd one or OCing your stock 320 to OC specs which most standard 320s are more than capable of, even 1350 shader clocks.

I'm tempted to sell my inno3d 320mb gts and get a 640mb one though purely for games like crysis as I will be playing in DX10. Any takers? :)
