Any new models released soon that anyone knows about? In the 19inch or possibly 20" catergory..

Only one model that appeals to me at the moment so hoping more stuff coming soon. :)

Yeah I'm hoping for some more 19" and 20" TFTs coming out with some decent viewing angles. Mainly waiting for HDCP and some cash in my bank though :P.

There was a thread floating about with a roadmap style thing in it, I woulda thought it woulda been a sticky but it doesn't seem to be.

Fantastic link there Baddass, should prolly look in at your site more often. Does this forum have some sort of reputation system btw?

The LG L203WT looks really nice, shame if its a TN panel though, dont get why it would be whwat with LG.Phillips having such good S-IPS panels out now inWS format. That and the Samsung 215TW or whatever its called.

Any news on either of these? paritcularly the samsung... something to rival the NEC perhaps? The extra 1" would be nice too.

I'd like to see a 5:4 19" screen from NEC with the same characteristic as the LCD20WGX2, ie - 6 ms IPS panel (and the viewing angles that go with an IPS panel) and 1600:1 contrast ratio (in DVM mode). Seems odd that NECs 19" screens are so inferior to their 20" widescreen. Surely it's a no brainer to make a 5:4 19" and 20" version.

they only have the NEC LCD90GX2 at the moment offering a 4ms TN Film panel (samsung by the looks of it) but with DVM as well. Let's hope they extend the IPS range after the sucess of the LCD20WGX2, but i think larger format screens are their main priority right now

there's details about the new 20" monitors due in the news article here (in the "new widescreen monitors" section) There was a lot of new designs and models showcased at CEBIT 2006 :)

Many thanks Baddass for your continuous commentary on developments in the LCD-monitor space. There seem to be many exciting monitor-related developments both now and in the near future.

After much thought (and consideration of your views) I've decided on a compromise bridge from the gap from 'then' to the 'near-now' by swapping my long-serving Sony Trinitron CRT for a Viewsonic VP930.

However, I have already budgeted for the acquisition of a next-gen monitor - whatever its technology or aspect ratio may be.

As part of the process of making that next-gen choice I will of course be subscribing to your ongoing commmentaries... :)

PS: Why does your link to 'TFT Central' result in a scrolling window within a scrolling window?

I really like the look of the new Samsung 917P.

When these models are showcased at CEBIT, how long is it until they get released - am I looking at +1yr or perhaps just a few months?

if you're using opera then it's screwed up. As it is, the site is designed so that the main table (with the menu and stuff) always fills a certain % of the screen, and then the content within it scrolls. so for instance, if i look at it in portrait mode on my 2405FPW at full screen, the main table still fills nearly all the screen, but the menu inside is smaller.....does that make sense? just a way of fitting the page to differing resolutions...
