Hi Guys,

Just bought a "Titan Predator" Intel Core i3 540 3.06GHz @ 4.20GHz ATI Edition DDR3 System (4Gb RAM) with a HIS Radeon HD 5870 (overclocked edition with MW2). I've installed Windows 7 64 bit Ultimate over the top.

I figured with this setup (and G Card) that I would be maxing out most games at 1080p with max settings. However, I just bought Black Ops and It varies between 25 / 35 fps, dropping frames all over the place.

I'm really not sure what the problem could be. I accidentally installed Windows 7 with AHCI mode not activated - there is a registry fix for this which i've not yet tried. I believe this shouldn't really be causing me the slowdown that I am seeing in games though. As the benefits involved only really relate to Ncq I believe?

Is there anything I could have missed in the installation of the OS?

I downloaded the latest drivers for the Graphics Card / Onboard Network Card / Audio Drivers.

I wasn't sure what extra drivers (mobo drivers chipset drivers) I might need on the install - windows 7 seemed to detect everything else. Any ideas what drivers I might be missing or anything else I might be missing. I can't work it out. A guy at work has the same GCard, less powerful CPU and a bit more ram and he runs Black Ops anywhere between 120 - 200 fps at 1080p max settings.

Cheers for all the help,

G

I would suggest you need to find out what motherboard you have and download/install the relevant chipset driver package from the manufacturers website (called 'chipset drivers' or something similiar)?

Secondly is it all games that are affected or just black ops as I'm sure that theres a known issue with that game dropping frame rates and stuttering?

I've installled black ops and SC2 and there seem to be problems with both games. SC2 can run about 80fps with not much stuff going on, but it seems to slow down considerably when there are lots of things on the screen.

I'll check out the chipset driver update and see if that makes any kind of difference. Cheers,

G

I'm not getting anywhere near those settings with my setup. I'm running everything in 1920 1080 so nowhere near the max on that page and I can't hit those framerates. I'm wondering whether windows is causing me any issues too. Cheers, g

Remember you're only using a dual-core processor there. Hyper-threading or not, it's still going to suffer a bit more ingame compared to a true quadcore. I'd point the finger at that area personally.

totally different but check your control panel, maybe your gpu is not working or has been disabled by mistake (this surely shouldnt be the case), try seeing if the gpu or mobo is overheating in anyway? (this also shouldnt be the case, as it was prebuilt and posted by OcUK)

and also the latest drivers are essential.

Cheers guys, i've done some tinkering and i have improved things quite a lot, still not where I want it to be - but It's damn hard finding someone with exactly the same setup as me to check!

I reinstalled windows (as the registry fix for AHCI mode did not work), and set AHCI mode properly within BIOS. I then moved the pagefile/swapfile to my secondary drive and now black ops runs about 45-50% faster.

Cheers for the help though guys,

G
