Same card as I have then. 5.1 from movies isn't a problem as the software player just passes the 5.1 stream straight through to the reciever.
Games however, is where my nightmare started. Anything with EAX should be fine theoretically. You'll need to add any older games to Creative's ALchemy program as that will reenable the surround sound support. You'll also need to go into Creative's Audio Control Panel to enable Dolby Digital Live or DTS Connect. These will encode your audio into which ever technology you choose, and then output the stream to the reciever.
Sounds fine so far right? Well apparently the DDL/DTS technologies need to take exclusive control over the optical output. This means that nothing else can send audio to the reciever via optical and is causing me a lot of problems. I can get Halo 2 to give me surround sound, but Windows Media Player then throws up an error whenever i try to play an MP3 because it can't get control of the optical.
So yes you can enable it fairly easily, but whether it works properly or not is anyone's guess. I'm going to be reformatting in a couple of days to try and get it all to work as it should so we'll see if that fixes my problems.
Word of advice: Don't bother installing the software that comes on the disc. You can get download the updated drivers, ALchemy, and DDL/DTS packages direct from Creative's website.
