Ordered an x1950 pro for a new system for my brother.

Having only dabbled in ATI before, the Catalyst Control Centre seems awful. I notice the official site offers either a complete set including the CCC or the basic drivers on their own. Any suggestions?

Does ATI Tray Tool replace the CCC or is it used alongside?

Cheers.

I would recomend not using ATT or CCC until ATT comes out with a version which supports the X1950 series properly as i was having a bit of trouble overclocking and getting it to run @ stock volts. If you want to overclock use ATI Tool if you need features from CCC then use CCC for now :).

i must be the odd one out. i have no issue with the ati ccc whatsoever. i agree it was abominable when first released but i think it has been improved a lot. i think the main reason people don't like it is because it uses 2/3 processes in task manager and they think it's bloat. :p

You can get the latest 6.12 drivers from here with the old Control Panel if theres problems with ATT on the x1950 (ive never heard of any) if you don't want to use the CCC either, no probs with the CCC here either, nowt wrong with it. :)

Hey you took your time to share that with us Loadsa!! ;)

is that the new 6.12 Cats with the old style 'control panel'?

ATT seems ok with the X1950 pro, but it doesn't overclock very well?

It works but overclocking is very complicated as ATT doesent support that card. So i really suggest ATI Tool for overclocking a X1950 series card :). Shame i went out and didnt have a go at overclocking my CPU and gfx card .

I have always normally used ATITool, quite familar with it, but for some reason I didn't install it yet with the X1950 Pro? I guess I was just getting used to ATI-Tray-Tools (ATT) because I only used it since a few days ago. The X1950 pro overclocks like a pig using ATT!! :D

Umm im having trouble overclocking my X1950XT with ATT going to experiment with ATI Tool and ATT this weekend :).

ATI Tray Tools seems like a 'snazzy' app for controlling AA/AF in games (u can make profiles, looks handy!!) apart from that I don't see much use for it (the profiler is enough reason to use it I guess?, although u could just do this in-game, for those games that support advanced settings).

Must download ATITool tonight and see if I can overclock with it any better than ATT . . .

Can you still access all settings without CCC? eg by just installing Driver and WDM drivers?
I did this with the 6.11s but ended up having to install CCC. (No ATI settings via Advanced tab)

I think back around the GeForce 2 and the ATi Rage Pro days, Nvidia were miles ahead of ATi in drivers. However since then ATI have been leaps and bounds ahead of Nvidia. NV drivers are a shambles and takes ages for WHQL or whatever certification sometimes. Since then i havent bought an Nv card and im real happy with ATI. Every month a new driver is out without fail i think... (could be wrong)

Drivers ATI > Nvidia (imo)

Iv gota say i kinda agree with poster, the CCC isnt exactly the most attractive thing to use.
Should be an option to just give you say pretty much every menu/option in a nice no frills menu. This time round i didnt even opt to install the CCC, didnt even think it was making a difference to anything.
I liked the old style nvidia menus, but apparently they'v changed them and theyr fussy now. If thats the case, idiots.

Yeah the Nvidia drivers have a new control setup to now, but you don't have to use it as they have an old panel option so you can use the old panel still if you want, what ATi should have done really, might have stopped the moaning. :)
