Hey guys.
My dvd player is on it's last legs and I'm thinking about upgrading to a Blu Ray player. Most of my dvds are region 1. I would still like the option of buying region 1 or 2 Blu Ray discs or DVDs.

One DVD shop lists a Panasonic DMPBD80 with Multi Region DVD playback, but what about the Blu Ray regions too?

Thanks for helping me out.

It'll be Region B for the Bluray

There is ways to break the bluray region locks, but it's not cheap at the moment. It's like the early DVD players - they need extra circuitry added to them to do it.

A large proportion of bluray disks are region free anyway. Just means they only need to produce 1 version rather than multiples. I've got a couple of UK Blurays that come up with the US This is a PG13 or R Rated movie bands at the beginning. :D

The BD-80 is an excellent player though.

There's an online retailer who specialises in Multiregion upgrades but I don't think OC rules would allow me to post the name/link. Typically the ICOs mod to allow all region BD playback adds around £150 to the price as opposed to about £25 for the multi DVD only. Coincidentally, our BD player with multi-DVD was on it's last legs so we just ordered a replacement for £239 (+£10 shipping). The cheapest player with multi DVD and BD playback was £360.

Hi guys :(
I think I found that site. 2 Panny models mentioned, but I'll probably opt for the cheaper DB60 at £369, fully modded.

I know the modded ones seem expensive but I remember my first multi region dvd players (pioneer 717, Sony 725) costing the earth over the region 2 versions.

:)

I think I found that site.

That's the one!

Our very first DVD player in 1997 was a Region 1/NTSC import, not much change out of £600 after buying a 240/110v step-down transformer to power it.

It's not that long ago the first retail BD players were going for nearly £1k and that for a Samsung as well!

My first DVD player (Panny RV60 with DD/DTS built in) came from 'Techtronics'.. anyone remember them??...

They did pre-Hacked players or a 'We'll do it for you' kit and for the die hards out there a 'DIY' kit!...

its still going strong Regions 1-6, RCE, and Macrovision Dissabled! :)

But the nice people in Peterborough are tempting me to buy a Blu-Ray thats multi-region (DVD/Blu-Ray)... I must resist at the moment!! :D

Yeah, I also got a Panny from them back in the day. Cant remember what it is, RV40 I think, but mines also still working fine.

Don't think I can be bothered this time around, I'll just stick to region 2, or B, or whatever they call it.

only diff i could see between the 80 and 60 models was the 8o had co axial output as well as optical and the ability to switch off the analogue outputs for better sound via the digital
