As the title says i am new to building own system and overclocking but i am here to learn. I am reading through this forum and i am learning a lot. I am planning to start building my new system next year in january .

This is what i have been thinking of:

1. Processor (CPU) = Intel Core i5-2500k
2. Motherboard = Asus Maximus IV Gene-Z
3. Memory (RAM) = 8 GB G.Skill Ripjaw F3-12800CL9D
4. Hard drive(s) = Already have 2 that i can use.
5. Graphics card(s) = Gainward Geforce GTX560 Ti Golden Sample
6. Power supply (PSU) = Corsair Professional Series HX 650
7. Case = Antec 1200 V3
8. CPU cooler = Be Quiet!! Dark Rock Advanced

I am open for suggestions. Budget is around 750£.

1. Processor (CPU) = Intel Core i5-2500k

Great choice.

2. Motherboard = Asus Maximus IV Gene-Z

Why have you gone for a massive case and an m-ATX motherboard? They'll work but it'll look a little silly imo. You can get a good full sized board for sub £100 (Gigabyte D3 @ £80, MSI, Asus and Asrock for about £95).

3. Memory (RAM) = 8 GB G.Skill Ripjaw F3-12800CL9D

Perfectly good, low profile RAM might work better though depending on cooler clearance.

4. Hard drive(s) = Already have 2 that i can use.

That's good, but consider a small SSD as a boot drive. Can often get good 60GB ones for around £55-60 on offer.

5. Graphics card(s) = Gainward Geforce GTX560 Ti Golden Sample

Good cards, the 2GB version is worth getting if you're going to be playing at 1920x1080p or higher.

6. Power supply (PSU) = Corsair Professional Series HX 650

Great choice.

7. Case = Antec 1200 V3

Perfectly good case, I really don't like them but that's personal preference. They're MASSIVE too.

8. CPU cooler = Be Quiet!! Dark Rock Advanced

Great coolers, Thermalright Silver Arrow is a little better though (but may have more clearance issues with RAM).

Case because i like it for some reason but i am open for suggestions. Second reason was money. But already you are giving something to think about.

ocuk doing the offer if you buy a antec case and psu you get 15% off so on the spec you get just under £30 off which brings it to £783 so just over budget. not sure which of the cheaper antec cases support the 310mm graphics card

the current this week offer ends tomorrow afternoon with new offer starting so unless buying tonight come back when you're ready to buy.

I have been doing some thinking and reading here in the forums and i have changed my set up. Some of the decision are because of money. One thing is still missing my case. I cant make my mind up.

Case should be around 100£-150£. It should have good cooling, good cable management and easy to work with.

well I guess you're a nvidia fanboy then?

the kingston ram speced earlier is actually £30 this week only offer(ends next wednesday), so better to go for that as its 8gb rather than the 4gb crucial

if you're going for the gigabyte z68ap-d3 that means no sli so no need for 850w psu, the offer on the selected psu has ended and its £90 now not £80. for your specs 650w is more than enough tho saying that the 750w version of the xfx pro is on sale this week for £77

I guess you're dead set on the be quiet cooler and no one will change your mind.

Not really, i would be more than happy with ATI. I havent had experience with ATI.

the kingston ram speced earlier is actually £30 this week only offer(ends next wednesday), so better to go for that as its 8gb rather than the 4gb crucial.

Copy and paste error, i would go for 8gb. I saw the offer but i am not ready to buy yet. I know it sounds stupid and i will loose a good deal.

I guess you're dead set on the be quiet cooler and no one will change your mind.

Actually my second choice was Gelid Tranquillo CPU Cooler. So no i am not set in stone.

Thank you for your advice.

well if you're not buying yet will be worth waiting and seeing what the new graphics cards bring, don't know about nvidia but some of the new ati/amd cards are due out in the next week or so.
