i have 3 PC's in my house, i have setup folding on all of them, now the thing is i think i set it up fine on my PC, but wrong on the others, i followed the sticky and on this pc i put machine ID's 1 and 8, on the other i put machine ID's 2 and 3 and on the other pc machione ID 4 i have 2 dual core pc's and one single core, the problem is FAHMON reports that the 2nd core on my pc is working on the same project number which is 2096 from the core gbgromacs as the other 2 pc's for example

PC 1 - core 1 is working on

core gromacs
project 2053
credit 219 points

core 2 is working on

core gbgromacs
project 2096
credit 178 points

PC 2 - core 1 is working on

core gbgromacs
project 2096
credit 178 points

core 2 is working on

core gbgromacs
project 2096
credit 178 points

Pc 3 - single core working on

core gbgromacs
project 2096
credit 178 points

It's just fine if you're working on more than one WU from the same project. There are millions of WUs in circulation at any point in time but there are only a few thousand projects. It looks to me that everything's A-OK.

As for the machine ID numbers, you should know that they are only for running multiple instances on one machine. You're not limited to 8 total clients. If you had 10 single-core computers you could leave the machine ID at 1 for all of them.

Welcome to the team. :)

check in the folding logs (you can do this in FahMon itself) and just check where it starts working on the WU

eg.

[16:11:02] Project: 2096 (Run 133, Clone 49, Gen 3)
[16:11:02]
[16:11:02] Assembly optimizations on if available.
[16:11:02] Entering M.D.
[16:11:08] Protein: p2096_A21_agbnp_amber99
[16:11:08]
[16:11:08] Writing local files
[16:11:08] GB activated
[16:11:08] Extra SSE boost OK.
[16:11:08] Writing local files
[16:11:08] Completed 0 out of 4000000 steps (0)

as long as at least one of the Run/Clone/Gen numbers are different between the two clients then you are working on different WUs which just belong to the same project.

also check that you have the Extra SSE boost OK. message showing - this means that it's running optimisations which your machine should support and is thus working at maximum efficiency

edit: oh and welcome to the team
edit 2: beaten to it :p

is there any way to check if they are different WU's and not the same WU - just to make sure i dont wanna be folding the same thing 4 times

lol sum1 jus posted as i typed checking now

just checked the numbers in fahmon and all are different thanks guys, i didnt have a clue about this and i didnt want my computers all doing the same thing because of the same user name

its Psycho_Sonny

this PC is an x2 4800 @ 2.5GHZ
the new family pc is an x2 4400 @ stock
the old family pc is a sempron 2800 @ stock

how fast do you think i should climb up the ladder?

i have a laptop that is currently not working i think psu might have gone or sumfin havent looked at it yet, also got 2 computers in my restaurant but they are hardly ever on i might put it on them also

thanks very much for your help guys much appreciated and very fast responses

At first you will climb _VERY_ fast. The higher you go the tougher the competition and the increased number of active folders. With that beefy machine of yours though you will still make good progress compared with the majority of team members..

Welcome to the Fold.

with those 3 main machines I'd reckon on you easily being in the top 10 producers as the outputs stand at the moment

you will probably be in the top 100 in the team rankings within 3 weeks though that will depend on what work you get and how long you can leave your machines on without getting told off :p :D

If these are going to be on 24/7, you'll be a force to be reckoned with!

As a very rough guide to you, my X2 3800 @ 2500 puts out around 2400 a week (give or take a fair bit). Both of yours have the extra cache over my CPU, so you can expect a bit more.

Welcome to the team - gonna have a nice output. :D

In general, the only time you will be assigned the same WU twice is if one of your machines downloads a new WU without submitting the previous one, so the server assumes you've lost it. In normal operation this should never happen.

Looks like you have some pretty decent WUs at the moment!
