Hi,

I've been toying with the idea of getting my self a decent home cinema system to go along with my Samsung 50" 4K TV.

At the moment, I've got a Logitech z5500 5.1 which I find the audo to be dull.

I'm going to get it in bits and bobs as I'm saving up for a house at the moment. I've found what speakers I want, which are the q acoustic 2020i's which get great reviews and can get them for £80.

It's the amp I am unsure of. I would like something which is black, and also that can do AirPlay/Bluetooth streaming from your phone. I'm not interested in Atmos or Dts X. I've seen richer sounds do a Yamaha 379 for £199 which seems to fit the bill. Is there any other amps I should consider, any decent second hand ones for around £200?

My plan is to run a stero setup for the time being then add to it to make it into a 5.1 setup.

Thanks for looking.

I would say get 2nd hand. Most early adopters are 'upgrading' to Atmos/DTS-X right now (except me :p not enough content out there) You could get a bargain. The odd AV receiver turns up on the MM now & again. That & AV Forums Classifieds.

I would tend to avoid the auction site - previous owners on AVF I would think that they would look after their hardware & keep the original box.

If you buy 2nd hand - collect it if you can or use a courier you can trust.

Last thing - stay away from older Onkyos, they are prone to overheating & have HDMI issues too.

Thanks for the reply.

Yeah I'm not too keen on eBay for this sort of stuff, a lot of horror story's floating about.

Regarding AV amps. Is there any around the £200 mark or cheaper new or used that support my needs a tall and ehich are reliable?

Regarding AV forum, anything put in place regarding safety for the buyer? Is it the same rules etc as the MM?

Managed to nip over to richer sounds over at Chester.

Manage to grab a Yamaha rxv667 for £194 and q acoustic 2020i for £99.

All I can say is WOW. The sound clarity is something I've never herd before. The amp didn't have Bluetooth but offers AirPlay for me and Spotify for the Mrs so it's fine.

All I can recommend and sure people would agree with me, BANANA PLUGs!
Pain in the bum splitting thick cable wire etc, so going to order my self some of them. Speakers are on little glass tables at the moment, looking around for some speaker stands which should finish everything off!

Can't wait to add more speakers!

sounds like a nice start there :)

would certainly agree on the comments above re the older onkyos, always been a fan but the quality isn't that great going by personal experience

next up moving onto a 2.1 setup?

More than probably yeah! Although, I find the bass from the 2020i's to be very vibrant and predictable, but then would free up the speaker.

Bit hard as we live in an apartment, so trying to keep the neighbours happy so will just wait till we move to add more. I want to stick with the acoustics, so they are all matching. Thinking I'll be going for the 2020i's for the back aswel because it's only an extra £20 for the 2010i's.

I won't be doing 7.1 or anything, just 5.1 and the amp can bi - amp so I will be giving that a whirl :)

Didn't get the ybao microphone as it was a clearance item, so did it manually! Had to dig out the tape measure lol.
