I hope someone can help me out here.

Just got an iPod nano 8GB as a prezzie. I would like to charge it without having the PC on. Here is what I found (all via USB 2.0):

1) iPod plugged in with PC on - Charging
2) iPod plugged in with PC off - No Charging
3) iPod plugged into mains powered USB 2.0 hub (not connected to PC) - No Charging

It would appear some software is "telling" it to charge from the above as a powered USB 2.0 hub working standalone would certinly send the right charge. Anyone know of a little trick I can do to get this working somehow (without investing in the mains adaptor). To have a PC on to charge the iPod is just plain silly!

Thanks guys!

Why?
Is it going to get the power from something that is OFF?
You're insane ;)

I like to think that I am a little more intelligent then that... hence the powered USB hub (incase when the system is off the USB ports are not powered, on a powered hub they are allways powered... kinda in the name) ;)

Can you not buy the cable/dock and plug it into the mains?

I could do but the idea is not to... would like to see if I can do it with the equiptment provided

If I plug it into the back it charges as long as the computer is plugged into the mains, doesn't matter if it's switched on or not.

This is interesting, I will give it a go at some point. It is strange that this should work for me (if it works for me) and not with the powered USB hub.

Yup, but I live in the UK (need three pin) ;), I know they are out there but again, I would like to try and get it working with what I have.

Going on Tute's reply, I will give the idea of plugging it into the rear USB ports a go when I have the chance. Perhaps there is some BIOS settings somebody knows I should be looking for for the USB headers attached to the for the USB ports at the front? I am assuming that this would be helpful to both Tute, and myself.

Thanks people, you help is appreciated.
