Hey I'm currently downloading Ubuntu 6.10 DVD Vers. and it’s got 40% to go, would I have any problems installing this on the below Laptop.

Compaq 2100

AMD Athol XP-M 2500
756Mb DDR SDRAM - 266 MHz
ATI Mobility Radeon 320M- AGP 4x (64Mb)
40Gig IDE HDD

I’ve browsed www.ubuntuforums.org for 2+ hours as I'm a complete newbie to Linux and don’t want any hiccups :p

Any info/tips would be great :D

Thanks for the reply, what’s worrying me a little is my wireless card Buffalo WLI-CB-G54S, which doesn’t get recognised I’ve just burnt the image to a DVD-R and its installing as I write :D so everything looks ok apart from my wireless :(

You might need to use ndiswrapper if it doesn't pick it up automagically. I'm sure I saw a guide over at the Ubuntu help pages, but it's SSL iirc, and we block all https:// traffic at work so can't search for it right now.

Ah brill thanks for the info & Links :) , I’ve just check that out and wow looks like I'm going to spend a few days getting my card to run :D

Ubuntu GUI looks great and is very snappy even while in the live mode, even if I cannot get my wireless working my Ethernet gets detected so I will have access to the outside world :p

After having had a short look around it appears that the Buffalo WLI-CB-G54S is not very well supported as there are no drivers for it. I don't suppose you have a card with an Atheros chipset lying about.

EDIT: Got the link Gareth?

EDIT2: This might be somewhat helpful https://help.ubuntu.com/community/WifiDocs/Driver/bcm43xx/Dapper
Think this is the link I remember seeing before... it seems very familiar.
