Do I need to apply for a provisional bike licence as I already own a full UK car licence which I've had for over 2 years? If not, can I go and book a CBT right away? (I'm 20)

What do you guys think of the YAMAHA YBR 125cc? Is it a good beginner bike for someone who has never rode a motorbike before?

Finally do you ride in icy or snow conditions?

I think to ride a 125 you will need to do a cbt.

Yamaha YBR is a reliable and cheap bike to run. A little bit boring mind, will do about 65 at the most so don't expect to be tearing the road apart on on but yeah, they're an ideal bike for beginners.

Some people ride in winter conditions where as others don't. When it comes to snow and ice, it's always best to avoid travelling on a motorcycle. If like myself, you have no choice then it's just a case of being careful with the accelerator and brakes and not going round corners too quickly.

Get a CBF over a YBR, i've ridden both (2009 CBF, 2011 YBR) and the CBF seemed more responsive in terms of throttle and braking and has a better riding position.

Hated every minute on the YBR

But do I need to apply for a provisional bike licence if I already have a full car licence?

I don't plan doing more speed than that anyway. I will probably do 60 at the most. I watched a video on how to operate a motorbike and it does seem very different to a car especially with neutral in-between gear 1 and 2.

A place that I can do a CBT uses the YAMAHA YBR 125cc so I will get to see if I like the bike.

I'd also recommend a CBF. Best mpg around :)

You can check your driving license to see if you have provisional entitlement for bikes. I suspect if you only acquired your driving license in the last couple of years you won't. But I could be wrong :)

Edit: Just had a Google around and it seems some folks say you can do a CBT with a full car license, and some say the license needs to have provisional entitlement for category A. Best bet would be to ring and ask your local training school. They should know the most up to date information :)
