I'm enjoying my first Nvidia GPU and want to know if anything should be changed within the control panel or should I just leave it all as default?
It looks very old and simple compared to the AMD one

not really you could change the following
3d settings -> gpu power > full power (stops the card idling and always give 100% power) only good for benching though i think.
if using HDMI check resolution page & checvk RGB is on FULL overwise you wont get 0-255 color space

I'd rather the card clock down and switch the fan off when on idle.

Using DP but I'll check the colour settings

Nothing. With Nvidia, your drivers just works. You're gonna save so much time now you'll wonder why you didn't switch sooner.

I've found with Ampere prefer maximum performance clocks down still on the desktop and fans turn off correctly when the GPU isn't under load (my previous nVidia GPUs have exhibited different behaviour and I've used adaptive before). I also find with Ampere if I use adaptive power management I lose a small amount of performance - around 2-5% whereas my previous GPUs it didn't make a different to in game clocks - your mileage may vary.

You might want to experiment with the low latency setting and V-Sync to taste and as above make sure the correct RGB range is being used for output.

Beyond that shouldn't really need to change anything as a general thing - these days most settings on auto, etc. will work well.

Until it crashes, and you roll back to the last driver 'cos it's more stable ... honestly, neither manufacturer has a spotless reputation re: drivers.
