after looking at this forum a lot of ppl going for intel are the new dual core amd not as good?

Under budget and faster than the original spec:-

Scythe Ninja Plus Rev.B Heatpipe CPU Cooler (478/754/939/940/AM2/LGA755)
(£35.24)

Corsair HX 520W ATX2.2 Modular SLI Compliant PSU (CMPSU-520HXUK)
(£72.84)

Asus P5N-E SLi nForce 650 (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard
(£82.24)

Intel Core 2 DUO E4300 "LGA775 Allendale" 1.80GHz (800FSB) - Retail
(£112.79)

GeIL 2GB (2x1GB) PC6400C5 800MHz Value DDR2 Dual Channel Kit (GX22GB6400DC)
(£111.61)

BFG GeForce 8800 GTS OC 320MB GDDR3 HDTV/Dual DVI (PCI-Express) - Retail
(£199.74)

Total : £624.97

If you wanted to spend more, you could go for faster RAM, or a e6600 CPU, but otherwise that should do.

AMD X2s are still good cpus but just not nearly as good as the Intel C2D. If you want a budget dual core rig then go X2, but for £800 you can get a lot more performance with C2Ds. Plus C2Ds have good OC potentials, too.

Only X2 worth considering is the X2 3800+ IMO for ony £60.

Just swap the CPU and mobo to a E6600 and a P5N-E (650) / P5N32-E (680) / P5B-E (965P) / P5W-DH (975) / DS3 (965P).

thanks. my current system is a semron 63 3100+ an its so slow even with a matched pair of 400 ddr corsair ram 2gb. i think one of my hard drives is going to break too as it whines when first turned on and i need to reboot the system to find it sometimes.....
i just want to get somthing that will be upgradeable so i can get another graphics card for sli and have 4 memory slots as 4gb would be nice.

also looking at the e660 due to the 4mb L2 cache as appose to the 2mb l2 chache (will it make a big diffrence) as they both oc to well over 3.2ghz

Also will the reccomended psu run 2 graphics cards

That OCZ 850W is fine for 2 graphics.

If you want to be able to run SLI in the future then it has got to be between nvidia 650 or 680 chipsets, like the ASUS P5N-E or P5N32-E. However if you want to run ATI crossfire then you need to go for the 975 chipset or the RD600, such as the ASUS P5W-DH, DFI Infinity 975X & DFI ICFX3200.

All above mobo wil support 4Gb RAM.

you won't notice too much difference with 4mb L2 under most circumstances but it will come in handy.

i will probably use nvidia due to having 2 bad ati cards in the past. but if i can go faster for cheaper with ati then i would use that. is there much diffrence in the 650 and 680 chipsets? as the 680 is double the price.
i am wanting to run any game on best settings if i can or the best i can for the money due to me spending a fortune just before pciE got out propperly.

Not a lot, and this is from a 680i user. If I was building my rig today, I'd build using the P5N 650SLi - simple as that. I'd probably still get a e6600, because I'm a cpu snob :D

8800 GTS - I have every game on maximum detail at 1280 x 1024, without any problems (touch wood) :D .

Doesn't make much of a difference in games. Video encoding will make use of it. I got it anyway :D

The one I recommended above will run 2 8800 GTXs and a quad core. Fact.

thank's for all the info

last thing i want to know is

is there much diffrence between nforce 680 and 650?

I have been reading up about using all nvidia and there is suppose to be big advantages by using specific things nvidia link boost

see here

how much of a diffrence will it accualy make to my fsb speeds?

I wouldn't worry about building an SLi machine. If a single GTS or GTX won't run your games then you have a seriously big monitor/resolution (30" / 2500 x 1500) and very few people have them.

but while i have the cash i may aswel get the best i can otherwise ill dwindle the money away and end up with nothing (my wife is a shopaholic)

Mine too, but I'd still say a 650SLi mobo (or 680SLi) and a single 8800 GTX would be your best bet. If you find it slow you could always get another.
