Mirror D/L 8.5GB DVD+R 8x Inkjet (10 Shrink) New Style Red/White Packaging @ £3.82 inc VAT

In common with other dual layer discs, these Mirror 8x Full Face Printable Dual Layer DVD+R DL in 10 Wrap have a data capacity of 8.5GB which equates to 240 minutes of video in standard play mode meaning you can fit even more of your favourite memories and yet still be assured that they are secure and protected.

Inkjet printable discs such as these enable you to add your own designs to the top surface with affordable machines such as the Epson R220 and R300 inkjet printers. Combine that with the ability of dual layer discs to hold nearly as much data as a commercially-pressed DVD and you have the ability to create high-spec movie and data discs.
DVD+R DL (DL stands for Dual Layer) also called DVD+R9 or Double Layer, is a derivative of the DVD+R format created by the DVD+RW Alliance. DVD+R Dual Layer discs employ two recordable dye layers, each capable of storing nearly the 4.7 GB capacity of a single layer DVD disc, almost doubling the total disc capacity to 8.55 GB (or 7.96 GiB). Discs can be read in many DVD devices (older units are less compatible) and can only be created using DVD+/-R Dual Layer and Super Multi drives. A dual layer disc differs from its usual DVD counterpart by employing a second physical layer within the disc itself. The drive with dual layer capability accesses the second layer by shining the laser through the first semi-transparent layer. DVD recordable discs supporting this technology are backward compatible with some existing DVD players and DVD-ROM drives. The recording speeds reached by dual layer media are still well below those of single layer media.

There are two modes for dual layer orientation, parallel track path (PTP) and Opposite Track Path (OTP). In PTP mode, used for DVD-ROM, both layers start recording at the inside diameter (ID) with the lead-in and end at the outside diameter (OD) with the lead-out. Sectors are sequenced from the beginning of the first layer to the end of the first layer, then the beginning of the second layer to the end of the second layer. In OTP mode, used for DVD-Video, the disk is recorded in the same physical way, but the sectors are sequenced from the beginning of the first layer to the end of the first layer, then the end of the second layer to the beginning of the second layer. In both modes, the layers share one lead-in and one lead-out.

The word CD-R stands for CD-Recordable. Mirror CD-R contain a layer of photo-sensitive organic polymer dye. When you record a CD-R, a laser is used to heat the dye layer, creating a permanent mark - this process is commonly called burning. These marks alter its reflective properties, as they are not as reflective as the untouched areas. This burning process is irreversible, therefore CD-R discs are WORM (Write Once Read Many). Once a CD-R discs has been recorded, the information cannot be erased making it incorruptible.
