I was wanting to overclock my CPU to 3ghz but have no idea what settings to change in the bios!

My spec is in my sig, at the moment all I have changed in the bios is putting my memory to XMP mode.

I only have the intel stock cooler aswell so would that cope with 3ghz ok?

Many thanks in advance.

Change BClock or BCLK from 133 to 150, stock cooler should be okay for that - but dont take it much higher and watch your temps.

Note: I have basically the same setup - except with 12GB of Patriot. It doesn't like overclocking with XMP enabled.

So long as you don't prime all the time. Not sure it's worth overclocking the chip until you get some real cooling - you will hardly notice the difference in day to day use.

The heatsinks intel provide for the i7 are only really just good enough. The i7 960 and 975 heatsinks have significantly more copper than the 920s IIRK, I'd go with a midrange aftermarket cooler if I were you. I get a max of 84C at 4GHz with a titan fenrir for instance, you are seeing 85C at 3GHz.

You don't have to get the Titan, there are other options like the Noctua, Promegahalems, Xigamatec and more. The titan is one of the cheaper top end coolers, it's quite noisy at full whack too. I'm also not sure if it will fit in an antec300, some of these coolers are quite big.
