Hello,

Overclocking is very new to me so i apologize for my lack of knowledge,

First off i am interested in Overclocking my CPU; Lynnfield i5 2.80ghz quad core,

currently i have a Corsair a50 heat sink fitted on this and my temperatures will rarely go over 38 full load,

i am looking to try and squeeze as much out of it as i can, Without replacing my A50,

has anybody got any advice on the way i should approach overclocking this? what software? general idea on the amount i should be increasing?

All information will be very helpful,

Thank you in advance,

Regards,

Ashley

Hi Ashley,

Read the sticky at top of this section and familiarise yourself with basic overclocking information.

Then start with some basic overclocking. Have a notepad and pen ready and slowly increment each clock. Note down the important details and your results of each clock including the important settings. Once you boot into windows, run a stress testing software such as Prime 95 to get an indication of whether your clocks can handle your current load. Keep continuing whilst keep an eyes on the temps.

That's generally the gist of it. What motherboard do you have?

Hello,

okay thank you, i will do that, once i get home from work i will begin these tests, thanks for your reply,

off the top of my head i cannot remember what motherboard i have, its a basic one. once i get home i will include it in this thread,

Thanks

Hi Ashley,

Just to give you a ballpark, i have managed to overclock my i5 760 to 4.0GHz.

This is using the Coolermaster Hyper 212+ (which is about the same / slightly worse than your cooler) and it runs at the 60 degree mark when being stress tested.

However, im using 1600MHz RAM, however i imagine you will still be able to get near this!

Hope this helps with what you could aim for!
