new to overclocking, need help/guidance

hi guys, i have a gigabyte ds3 mobo, E6300 core 2 duo and 1gb of ddr2 800mhz ram, the ram is just cheap stuff from *competitor!*, but id like advice on how to overclock, im not looking for insane clock outputs just a overclock to maybe 2.4ghz if thats possible, so where do i start?
