Hi everyone,

Im new to overclocking and recently purchased an Ultima OC 8800GTX from overclockers.co.uk. (q6600 go @ 3.4, 4gig Crucial Ballistics, Tuniq 120, antec 900 case, 8800GTX)

I received it overclocked to 3.2 ( I opted for 4gigs which apparently makes the system more unstable at 3.4). But whilst trying to find the fan switches, I switched the Cmos reset switch and lost all the settings. I have since been fiddling a lot trying to get a stable overclock, and have managed 3.6 with 1.4775 volts to the CPU in the bios (1.32-1.44 idle in CPU-Z, and 1.37-1.42 under load [mostly 1.38]) and notched up the Northbridge voltage to 1.44 (from 1.25). I have also set the ram to 1000MHz, by upping the voltage to 2.225 (0.025 above the rated max). I have fully tested the system to be stable, using Prime95 (overnight testing), and my temperatures (using coretemp) are 25 idle, and 63 max. I have been testing this setup for about a week now, gradually dropping everything down to its minimum until it becomes unstable.

I just wanted to make sure with everyone here that my system isn't being strained too much, I want my CPU to last about 2-3 years, and although I'm greedy and always want to push it as far as I can, I don't want to have to buy new parts too soon down the line! Are my voltages ok? I know I've gone above the 2.2V on my ram, but only by 2.225, so I'm hoping that is ok? I feel like I could go higher than 3.6, but I'm only on air, and I think I'm getting to the limit of reasonable!

bump, just failed a prime small ffts test last night after 7 hours, is that stable enough? or do i need to try 1.4975?

7 hours is very close to success. Bumping the vcore up to the next setting should be enough.

right, i've set it to 1.4975, and am doing a test now. the temperatures are about 66-67, is that too high? Like I said, I'm hoping to keep this computer for a good few years before I have to start replacing anything

3.6GHz on air with a quad is a good clock, what motherboard come with the system? if its a P35 or X38, they dont have the 4GB problem when overclocking.

Those temps are fine for a quad, especially under air. Running Prime95 is as hot as it'll ever get.

Computer just reset itself, does that mean I should try 1.5075 in the Bios? Or is that a different problem than voltage?

Hmm, well im down back to 1.4875, and I've upped the VTT to 1.35 from the stock 1.2. Does that sound ok? Not too high? Temps are 66-67 and its been running Prime 95 for 2 hours...

its just restarted again, after about 30 minutes. No error, no fail, just a restart. Anyone know what I should do? I've just dropped my RAM down to 800 to make sure its not that, after that I might increase the VTT a notch. Any other suggestions? Is my Vcore too low, or is there another problem?

4.5 hours at 1.5175 volts, (1.41 in windows, CPUZ) looks like it should be ok...

ill keep you all updated, even if you dont care!

what does that mean? is 1.51 volts too high, because please, just tell me, this isnt a joke, its my expensive computer!

Your FSB is still pretty low so adding more volts to the VTT will probably have little effect.

If the CPU voltage is only 1.41v in Windows then you can keep raising it instead. But keep your Prime95 temps below 80c.
