HIYA

I am very new to this world of overclocking and I was wondering on how to overclock my cpu to 3ghz I have a E2160 which I have managed to clock it to 2.47ghz my problem is if I go any faster it doesn't boot up.
I have a
Asus P5N-T Deluxe nForce 780i
OCZ 2GB (2x1GB) PC2-8500C5 1066MHz Reaper HPC Edition Dual Channel DDR2
Intel Core 2 Duo E2160 "LGA775 Conroe" 1.80GHz (800FSB)
2 XFX Geforce 8800 GTX in SLI MODE
Coolermaster Real Power 1000w Modular Power Supply
Please can you tell me how to do this as I have seen this cpu clocked a lot faster than my 2.47 and it is really annoying me that I cant get it to go any faster. Many thanks In advance

First - read the sticky guides if you haven't already.
Second - it would help if you let us know your key overclocking BIOS settings...

Ram divider - start with 1:1
max FSB
multiplier
vCore (CPU voltage)
vDimm (RAM voltage)
VMch (chipset voltage)

for starters. Better still show us some screenshots.

hiya thanks for the quick replys.
vcore is 1.38750v
cpu vtt 1.40v
the rest of the voltages are set to auto has I have no idea what to set them to.

using CPU-z
My core speed is 1650.1mhz
multipier is 6.0 even bios reports it as 9??
bus speed is 275mhz
Rated FSB 1100 mhz
Core voltage is 1.296V
I hope this helps

Try 1.4 for your vcore. What are your temps under load? What cooler are you using. If you don't know your temps, get coretemp freeware tool. Stay under 70C load.

Check your RAM divider. Manually set it to 1:1 initially, and this should see you through to 3Ghz. I am not sure about your BIOS, but some refer to this as x2 (confusing I know).

Finally, the discrepancy with your multi BIOS v CPUZ is because you have speedstep on (automatically reduces the multi when not under load). Should not be harmful switched on, but I tend to switch off when overclocking.

Hope this helps

I put the vcore to 1.4. And the pc idles at 34 both cores I haven't yet put it under load. I've put the ram divider to 1:1 manualy and with no luck it seems to boot to 2.58 which is the highest I can get to but it wont load windows vista it just hangs. I have turned off speedstep and im on a stock cooler.

Temps are fine.

Suggest upping v core in small .01 or steps to 1.45, until it boots. You will be safe. If it doesn't boot at 1.45, your problem is almost certainly elsewhere.

What volts & timings are you running on your RAM?

You should be able to boot at vcore 1.4v, if not KG is right you will need to look at other issues. All power/mobo cables correctly connected?

Timings seem ok for now, you can definitely tighten them once you've reached your goal ;)

For now though try bumping the vdimm to 2.0V or even 2.1V if necessary. You'll be fine, your sticks are rated to 2.4V!
