was just wounding if someone could give me a little hand with my overclock.
currently running a e6850 cpu on a nvidia n650i-dsl4 motherboard with 8gb of OCZ gold 800mhz ram.
settings :

3.4ghz @ 378 x 9
1.264 Vcore (dont know if thats a little high ?)
42degrees

using prime 95 large FFT test.

all on a corsair H50 cooling kit, in a Antec 900 case.

thankyou for any help you can give me, if you need any more info please ask.

just ran FFT test and it failed on Core 2 says : test ran for 12mins 1 failed 0 errors, rounding was 0.5, expected less than 0.4
i have no ideas, little help please :)

if its failing prime after abit that usually means you will have to raise the vcore a few notches higher.

1.264 is'nt that high at all, you can easily and safely pump 1.4v into that cpu, aslong as ur cooling can handle it, and as u have the H50 it will.

I would suggest putting the vcore to 1.3v boot up, run prime again to see if it fails, if it passes after some time without any errors, then go back into the bios and step the vcore down 1 notch and retest. Keep doing this untill u find the vcore it fails on, then you will know you will need more then that.

Or allternativly if ur not to bothered about the vcore, im fairly sure 1.3v will be more then enough for that overclock.

oh right thanks a lot ! how long would you leave it priming for ? 1-2 hours ? or overnight ?
also do i go off CPUz voltages or Bios ?? as Bios says its like 1.34 and cpuz says 1.26 cant quite rember as im at work atm. thankyou for your help so far :)

Go off what CPU-Z is saying, thats your voltage after Vdrop. You will also find the voltage will be difference between idle and load and this is called vdroop.

Some people are happy after 1-2 hours, i prefer 8 hours and usually leave PC on over night testing or when i'm at work. I can say i prefer 8 hours as my last overclock failed after 7 hours of testing :)

last one then ... so would my max be 1.5v on load or underload stated under cpuz ? even if bios says sumat daft like 1.65 ? 8 hours is a long time but i suppose it has to be stable :D thanks a lot so far !

Your probably best stearing clear of going as high as 1.5v unless u where on custom water, and as ur not its best to stay about 1.4 or under for 24/7 use.

That being said there is nothing wrong with doing quick tests, and benching with 1.5 so long as the temps don't shoot up that is.

If you don't want to wait 8 hours, then you can try intel burn test, on maximum memory settings and set it to run 20 times, most agree that if a computer can pass 20 tests on maxium settings then its a stable computer.

that usually takes about 1 hour give or take, to complete.

ok then ill stay away from 1.5 as i only really want to get chip to 3.5/3.6 no point going any higher other than bragging rights to my bro :D.
ill try the intel burn test ill download tonight and see how she goes :D
thanks a lot for all your help !

No problem allways glad to help when i can.

About the bragging thing, you can still do it, just find the ideal settings for the overclock you want to keep, save them if ur mobo lets u save overlock profiles, if not write down all the info so u can go back to it.

Then when bored or what not u can try for maximum clocks and just boot up, run cpu-z screen shot it, save. Revert back to 24/7 clocks then show off the picture lol.

Its what i do, i did it last nite to annoy my friend who can't get ove 4.3ghz with his E8400, i did a quick clocking at 4.5ghz screen shoted it and rubbed it in his face haha.

But good luck trying to get ur target speed, and have fun at a later date trying for maximum clocks.

that seems like a good idea :) ill be trying that aswell when he comes round on sat :)
dont think my mobo lets me save profiles but ill check would be a nice feature to have. thanks again :)

Would also echo trying a few different stability tests, have passed IBT/LinX before on max memory tests but failed Prime instantly etc..

Good luck! :)

I'm easily running my E6850 @ 3.6GHz all the time, at nice temps also. My Core Voltage in CPU-Z right now, is 1.4V.

400MHz x 9 is pretty much on 3.6GHz. So with that H50, you could push it a little higher still.

One thing to do with Prime95, is make sure you go to Advanced > Round off checking, and make sure it has a tick next to it.

I've been using a Blend to stress my system, and before I ran that, did around 20 runs of IntelBurnTest. Stresses it to the max.

Pretty easy to get used to, once you know what you're doing. There are a few good guides on overclocking the E6850 around. Just Google "overclocking E6850".

Hope that helps a bit also.

just ran into a little problem ... was woundering weather to enable or disable C1E and/or EIST ? also do i go off CPUz voltages or Bios ? thankyou very much so far guys ! got it stable at 3.5ghz @ 1.4vcore bios :)
