Hi guys

As the title suggest iam new to overclocking but i wouldnt regard myself as a complete noob as i have a rough idea about things. I have read through the beginers guide to overclocking post. I was hoping some of you more experienced overclockers could maybe give a few hints tips like the do's and dont's of overclocking.

Thanks :)

do be cautious, dont go upping vcore like a loon, or clock settings
google is thy friend

read as much as you can about the equipment you have or things your looking to buy.

Take small steps first.

dont expect to get it spot on maxed first time round.
make sure your cooling is upto grade

do not skimp on your power supply
buying a cheap power supply might seem like a good idea but when your shoving more volts through your board and chip and cheapo psu decides to give up, chances are that 10 pound psu will end up costing you hundreds ;)

cant think of much else lol

if in doubt, ask, or google lol :p

Overclock in the bios, do not use windows overclocking applications.

Post your hardware to see if people with similar equipment have suggestions.

Download CPU-z, HWmonitor, Prime95. Run all and record your temperatures under load.

Try reducing the CPU voltage a notch or two and see if it boots and runs at stock under load.

This will tell you what overhead you have for raising voltages from stock to achieve a better OC.

Ensure that you have good airflow in the case, tidy it up, a couple of 80 - 120mm fans one intake and one exhaust could be a minimum start point.

and good luck, andy.

Thanks for your replies.

I can see from posting here and in general hardware about new builds that a decent psu comes up everytime. This is something i probably would skimped on if im honest so thank you for taking the time to correct me :P
