Hi guys,

I've done some research into overclocking, but it still mind boggles me!

I'm tweaking bars in Afterburner, testing with the little kombustor button, looking at gpu temps and i feel like i may end up doing something i regret.

I've got an old 8800GTS 640MB version

The default settings are:

Core Clock: 513
Shader Clock: 1188
Memory Clock: 792

Now I've got a full custom heatsink setup with loads of little heatsinks all over each component and a big ass 6 piped monster of a heatsink with a coolermaster 120x120 fan attached.

Looks like a V8 engine more than a card.

Now I've had it 2 years and I've never overclocked it. At present it runs badcompany 2 in dx9 on high settings, but i wanna give it a push and see what it can do.

I recently tried a gtx460 in my machine and my core2duo couldnt handle it and my fps dropped a considerable amount and my CPU went berserk! So I'm going to wait til i get a new mobo and cpu before i upgrade.

Could somebody, preferably some1 who knows the timings for the 8800gts series, break down how to overclock it safely for me please?

At present I'm literally tweaking bars up to the nearest 10, activating the inbuilt Kombustor thingy and waiting to see if the temp goes above 70C. Is this the right method or am i risking imminent doom?

you will get a better response if you post this thread in the graphics card section ;)

also you are doing the same as i do when overclocking a gpu.
raising the bar by around 10-20mhz, but i use furmark to stress test,
if temps are ok and no artifacting i raise again.
you fine as long as it doesn't get too hot.
then you can raise the voltage (if allowed) and strat raising again.
use google, there will be loads of guides with settings

edit. here are some settings http://www.overclockers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=547485
