My system is a older model and i suspect not much room for overclocking however i have tried but would like some advise from those with experience.

My MB is a P5KPL-AM SE , 4GB Ram , AMD ATI Radeon HD4350 Silent .
CPU is a E5300 @ 2.6GHz which is 800FSB

I have managed to overclock the Radeon to GPU 725MHz and memory to 540MHz

The CPU i have overclocked from base of 200 to 255 giving me a 3.3Ghz
runs at a max temp of 58 oc.

However my Ram is 800Hz or 400 in reality but is running faster than it should so it overheats.

How do i get the best settings for my system. Please help.

Note only have one fan Artic cooler for CPU have not got any chassis fan will look at new chassis with fans or any fan that can be attached.

in the bios settings there will be a memory divider (dram frequency), where u can adjust the ram speed (not timings)
where it displays the ram speed eg. 425mhz, there should be an option near it to adjust it higher or lower, so set it as near as 400mhz as u can get.

i had some old blackdragon ram that was rated at 800mhz and i overclocked it to 1020mhz (510 x 2), and it didnt overheat.
all ram is different, but are u sure its overheating?
if u are getting random lockups or crashes, just try upping to ram voltage to 1.6v or 0.1v higher than its rated, if the ram is unstable, this may help.
if u are sure its overheating, then dont raise the ram voltage, just adjust the memory divider as above

also stress test with intel burn test for at least 10 passes, to check its stable

the bios just lets me choose auto , 800 , 667 i set it to 800 and it runs at 510 x 2. it raises temperature to 45 OC. it has never locked out but gives a over heat warning as part of my asus probe II system.

the FSB shows 1020 as well still a 1:2 ration to ram.

is it true as long as the cpu and ram are kept cool enough you can push the overclocking even higher than the 2.6 to 3.3 i have now. As i know max FSB on my motherboard is 1600.

try the ram at 667mhz,
is the warning for the ram?

oh as above Intel burn test or Prime95 are the best and most trusted stress tests
download realtemp and monitor the cpu temps

i found that if i change the memory from 400 to 333 i can push the CPU even higher as i get a FSB 3:5 instead of 1:2

what was happening was as soon as the memory hit over 510mhz the system failed.
Now the clock SPD settings are 6 6 6 18 for 400 but the clock settings are 5 5 5 15 for 333.

if i tell it to use SPD and set it to 333mhz it gives me a setting of 6 5 5 15 which seems out of balance. The bios screens from the above suggested guide are some what different.

now am i correct that the rates 6 5 5 15 would cause the system to be unstable and i should alter CL from 6 to 5.

any advice on this welcome as i may get a better CPU setting but a loss on memory speed. Even set at 333mhz i am running around 410mhz with a 3.5ghz cpu rate.

base rate was 200 set rate 275.

u have found out that by reducing the ram speed or unlinking the ram from the fsb, u can normally overclock the cpu higher, as the ram does not affect the overclock. u should always do this ;)

regarding the ram timings, my old mobo used to do the same, as i overclocked the cpu higher, the lower the ram timings went.
usually the lower timings are ment to be faster iirc, but the speed will make more difference than timings.
its upto u, u can either manually set the ram timings, or if its stable, leave it be
