Hi,

So I am making the leap from console to PC, and I have attempted to create a configuration that will be relatively future proof for the next couple of years. I wondered if you guys could please look over the build below and see if it makes sense and is a good one?

Processor (CPU)
AMD Ryzen 7 5700X Eight Core CPU (3.4GHz-4.6GHz/36MB CACHE/AM4)
Motherboard
ASUS® ROG STRIX B550-F GAMING (DDR4, USB 3.2, 6Gb/s) - ARGB Ready!
Memory (RAM)
32GB Corsair VENGEANCE DDR4 3000MHz (4 x 8GB)
Graphics Card
12GB NVIDIA GEFORCE RTX 3060 - HDMI, DP, LHR
1st Storage Drive
256GB PCS 2.5" SSD, SATA 6 Gb (500MB/R, 400MB/W) (Special Offer)
2nd Storage Drive
1TB SEAGATE BARRACUDA SATA-III 3.5" HDD, 6GB/s, 7200RPM, 64MB CACHE
1st M.2 SSD Drive
128GB PCS PCIe M.2 SSD (1100 MB/R, 600 MB/W)
Power Supply
CORSAIR 650W TXm SERIES™ SEMI-MODULAR 80 PLUS® GOLD, ULTRA QUIET
Power Cable
1 x 1.5 Metre UK Power Cable (Kettle Lead)
Processor Cooling
PCS FrostFlow 120 Series ARGB High Performance Liquid Cooler (AMD)

There's a chance i could have overspec'd this as well, i would like to seamlessly play Dayz and Tarkov, these types of games. Thanks guys, any advice greatly apprecaited.

i'd rather get a 5600(x) and then bump the gpu up to a 3060ti
ram could be better too...3200mhz is preferable, could get 16gb now and adding another 16gb down the line
you don't need 2 ssds (albeit one is sata3 and the other is m.2)...preferable to get 1 large ssd instead (500gb minimum)

Ah thanks tamzzy, I guess 32gb is way OTT for now tbh. Great advice cheers!

32gb is way OTT
well, not really. 16gb is sufficient for *most* users

however faster ram can provide a better experience (better minimum framerates) as long as one doesn't run out of ram
if you're definitely sure you'll use more than 16gb ram then 32gb of slower ram is more preferable to 16gb of faster ram
(of course 32gb of faster ram is most preferable if you have extra £££ to spend :P)

Haha yeah just looking at some builds they just look insane, but with that comes a huge price tag! for what I would be using it for I think I would eb ok with 16gb faster ram, with scope to improve later

Storage drives are a bit messed up , 2 relatively small ssd/m2 and a large mechanical hard drive which are only good for storage.

Ideally you want Windows and games on the fastest drives.

So do you think 1 512gb SSD with no other drives would be better?

This is a much more sensible build than OPs.

That SSD has some great reviews.

Nothing wrong with Tetras spec at all and it is significantly cheaper than a similarly performing prebuilt like below.

My basket at OcUK:
  • 1 x OcUK Tech Labs Intel 12th Gen Midi Gaming PC Configurator (SKU: FS-021-TL) = £1,451.92
    • Case: 1 x Lian Li LANCOOL 215 Mid-Tower aRGB Tempered Glass Black
    • Processor: 1 x *Build* Intel Core i5 12400F up to 4.4GHz Turbo - Six Core, Twelve Thread Processor
    • Motherboard: 1 x MSI MAG B660M Bazooka DDR4 - Intel B660 DDR4 Micro ATX Motherboard
    • Cooler: 1 x Arctic Liquid Freezer II A-RGB High Performance CPU Water Cooler - 240mm
    • Memory: 1 x Corsair Vengeance LPX 32GB (2x16GB) DDR4 PC4-25600C18 3600MHz Dual Channel Kit
    • Graphics Card: 1 x MSI Radeon RX 6700 XT Mech 2X 12GB GDDR6 PCI-Express Graphics Card
    • Primary Solid State Drive M.2: 1 x Crucial P2 1TB M.2 2280 PCI-e 3.0 NVMe Solid State Drive
    • Power Supply: 1 x Seasonic Focus GX-750 750W 80+ Gold Modular Power Supply

With the above configurator you can add HDD storage if you need more and can change just about everything so have a look and think about what you need.
